I reserved here because it's recommended in the Michelin guide. In my opinion it should not be on the list. We reserved from 1700 to 1900. The first reason it should not be recommended as Michelin is the shift service, but we wanted to try it so we reserved anyway. We ordered oysters and tuna tartare as first course. Oysters were fine and so was the tuna tartare. Both fine, but the toasted bread with the tartare was ecceptional. For the main course we had the steak on lava stone and the lamb. My husband liked the steak on lava stone, but you have to prepare it yourself. He didn't mind, I don't understand why I would go out to dinner to prepare a steak myself. It was mentioned on the menu though, so you are well prepared. The quality of the steak was absolutely fantastic. The lamb, if they had asked, was a bit dry, but again: quality of ingredients was good. Proportions between vegetables, meat and potatoe a bit off. For dessert I wanted a chocolate cake by grandma's recipe. Well marketed with grandma and chocolate, but even though we had the 1700 o'clock shift it was all gone, so I skipped dessert. 5 minutes later, at around 1800 they ask for our honest review, even though we've still got one hour. I'd recommend asking this 15 minutes before end of shift. At 1848 we were asked to leave our table, because of the next shift. I reserved from 1700 to 1900, not 1700 to 1848. We paid at 1858 when we finished our wine. I had already seen the time at 1837 and asked to prepare the cheque so we could leave before 1900 as agreed upon. Changing and cleaning tables should not be done in our time, but in theirs. Change the timetable to 1915 if you haven't got the time for this. When we left, there were at least 5 tables for 2 not occupied. We could have stayed seated instead of being rushed inside to finish our wine with a half apology. All in all: quality of ingredients very good, courses are fine, service was fine, but just not up to expectations if I compare it with other restaurants in the guide. I read the other reviews where they asked for concrete examples to further better the restaurant and I hope to...
Read moreThe food, service, and atmosphere were all phenomenal. But it’s important to note that this establishment has flaws that were surprising given the quality of all other factors. As a variety of other reviewers have mentioned, the very fact that a customer has to walk into the bar to pay instead of the bill being brought to the table is a major oversight. Such a decision is confusing and takes away from the full experience. It is not becoming of a hopeful, emerging upscale restaurant. More so, their credit card reader was not working. This staff was not properly trained in dealing with such a situation and only gave me the choice of paying with cash.
I believe it is fair to assume that this restaurant receives a good number of tourists. And while most carry cash, most would also prefer to pay with card due to the convenience and security. It was a massive error to not have contingencies for when a card reader is broken. I believe that alone speaks loudly to the management decisions made here. Again, the food and service at the table was great, but the backend of the business was not well done at all.
I hate to give reviews like this as many hard working people are involved. But as a customer and from my perspective, I was put in a difficult situation with no other alternatives provided. I’m lucky that I had enough cash on me to pay the bill. If I didn’t have the cash… I don’t know what I would done. And I fear this will happen to others in the future.
Management if you are reading this, please make the correct solutions and please be more prepared for next time. I’ve read multiple reviews where they tell customers their card reader is broken, and it only adds to the narrative that management is trying to get cash and deceive others unfortunately. It’s a shame but I can only provide my truthful perspective. Thank you...
Read moreMy dining experience at Marco Polo in Dubrovnik was an absolute delight and truly a highlight of my visit to this beautiful city. This restaurant not only captures the essence of Dubrovnik's rich history but also delivers an exceptional Michelin-starred culinary journey that is bound to leave a lasting impression.
Marco Polo is a blend of elegance and Old-World charm. Nestled within the historic Old Town, the restaurant's decor exudes a timeless Mediterranean charm with its stone walls and warm lighting.
The food was nothing short of spectacular. I had the pleasure of indulging in the pork belly, monkfish Wellington, chicken lollipops, and tuna steak along with several starters with my family. Each dish was not only a feast for the taste buds but also a visual delight, beautifully presented with attention to detail.
Marco Polo apart has such an attentive and welcoming staff. They went above and beyond to obtain my request for the monkfish Wellington before the later dinner service. The service was impeccable throughout the evening, with the waitstaff being both friendly and professional. They were more than happy to explain the menu, offer suggestions, and ensure that my dining experience was nothing short of perfect.
As for the location, Marco Polo's spot within Dubrovnik's Old Town is a serene escape from the bustling streets while still being in the heart of the city's historic center. It's the perfect place to unwind and savor a meal after a day of exploring the city's attractions.
