Our family of four, plus my daughter’s friend, had the pleasure of dining at Forty-Four Restaurant, nestled in the heart of Old Town Dubrovnik. Our experience was nothing short of exceptional. This was our second time dining here, as we had an equally wonderful experience last year. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly greeted and promptly seated inside, where we enjoyed the restaurant’s charming and cozy ambiance. The interior seamlessly blends modern elegance with historic charm, creating a welcoming and intimate dining environment. The highlight of our evening was undoubtedly the food. Each dish was expertly prepared and beautifully presented. The flavors were exquisite, showcasing the best of Croatian cuisine with a contemporary twist. From the fresh seafood to the delectable desserts, every bite was a delight. Our evening was made even more special by the outstanding service provided by Janko. He was attentive, knowledgeable, and went out of his way to ensure we had a memorable dining experience. His recommendations were spot on, and his friendly demeanor added a personal touch to our meal. Overall, Forty-Four Restaurant exceeded our expectations once again. The combination of excellent food, top-notch service, and a delightful ambiance made for an unforgettable evening. We highly recommend this gem in Old Town Dubrovnik to anyone seeking a wonderful dining experience.

Where do I begin? This place is perfect. If you are looking for a great service, great food, great ingredients and just a wonderful atmosphere this is the place for you. Is close enough to every place on the center, but gives you the quiet and the peace out of the touristy side of Dubrovnik. The food is amazing! Starting with the first plate to the warm fresh bread... all was presented impeccably. The sea bass was just right, balanced with veggies and just as tasty as it gets. The black risotto, creamier than anything you have ever tried. The texture, amazing! Perfectly cooked, not under done or over done. Just right. And actually, we order this dish by mistake. If you are here you must order the risotto with scallops and truffles! The smell of this plate follows the whole street! It looks just like the creamiest thing you ever taste... and the smell!!! We were too full to even try it on this trip, but we will surely return here for it. This for the food. For the service: 10 out of 10. Great suggestions, help, service, details, everything! As for the location, I insist, if you are looking for a quiet place, away from all the tourists usual spots, this is for you!

I travelled to Zagreb, Split, Istria and Dubrovnik (where I also tried Nautika and Restaurant 360), and this was my favorite restaurant on the trip. I think Croatia of late can get really expensive - you’ve got the fine dining establishments charging prices more than Italy or Paris, and Konobas that also charge very high prices of around 40-50 eur a person (considering they are meant to be Konobas). What I like about Forty-Four is that it’s value for money - delicious food reflecting local cuisine, and yet it doesn’t break the bank. We ordered two whole fishes and the grilled calamari, and it was hot, delicious, fresh, and doesn’t break the bank. It’s like local food - but refined enough so not quite street food or pub/tavern food, but a proper, solid, good local restaurant. The dessert was also amazing - I had a wonderful milk/honey/almond cake. The service also makes you feel right at home. Special shoutout to the man who’s the neighbour to this restaurant and now works there. Thank you for your hospitality and warmth. Also, this is Bogdanović restaurant if you know who he is (he plays in the NBA). I don’t watch the NBA so this isn’t a fangirl review.

We visited the restaurant to make a reservation in person, 3 days before the actual date. We asked for a specific table outside (we don’t like to sit inside during a summer holiday when the weather is nice) upon recommendation of the staff. The specific table got confirmed and a credit card guarantee was needed to complete the booking. We arrived 2 min before our reservation - only to see to our big disappointment that our table was taken by another couple. The manager Mark quickly came to us, profusely apologizing and offered us a 20% discount - with a table inside. The lady who took our reservation was there too- she just shrugged and did not seem to care much. Mistakes can happen - but such behavior is not the way to go in hospitality.

We got seated inside- and Mark immediately offered us a drink to start with. Then, unfortunately it took 40 min until our appetizers were served. I wanted to order the swordfish from their menu as a main course - and was told it wasn’t available anymore. Our reservation was at 8pm- how can a dish already be gone?

The food: it was fantastic. Beautifully presented and simply very delicious. Highly recommendable. Our server Antonio was very friendly, welcoming and eager to please the customer.

After finishing our appetizer, it took a while for our empty plates to be taken away. I understand each server is in charge of a certain area in a restaurant- but many a times other servers passed by our table empty handed. Not good. Even if it’s not your area, servers should be attentive and take away empty plates when they pass by.

When our dessert was served, I picked up our spoons and to our horror, they were both dirty. They both still had chocolate from previous customers on both sides of the spoon. Absolutely unacceptable. (See pictures)

At the end of our dinner, we had a nice, constructive conversation with Mark. We gave our big compliments to the chef- and to Antonio our server, and shared the problems we had tonight. Mark received them very well, deeply apologized once again, and on top of the discount, our drinks had been taken care of as well.

We wish the restaurant well- as the food was truly excellent - so with fine tuning in the details- it will then deserve 5 stars. (and we personally think the ambience inside would be much nicer when the lights are dimmed as we felt it was too bright)

Thank you Mark for making our evening better which hadn’t...

I have just checked out of this beautiful boutique hotel. I have traveled all over the world staying in luxury 5 star hotels like the four seasons, aman, etc. This is one of the most charming boutique hotels with the most personalized and attentive service we have ever received. It is tiny, 5 rooms, and family run. The manager, Damir, goes above and beyond for the property and guests. We had a family of 7, and upon check in, and seeing all of us with all of our luggage, ( we just spent a week on a Moorings catamaran seeing the islands), he upgraded us to a 4 story, 3 bedroom apartment that literally was a “palace”, just because he thought we would be more comfortable! This palace was unbelievable, and gorgeous!! The location of the property can’t be beat. It is right in the center of the walled medieval city and old town of Dubrovnik. The restaurant is also the best in the city and one of the best meals we had during our 12 day stay in Croatia. A lot of the restaurants in old town are the same, but their restaurant is much more upscale with better food quality and presentation. The waitstaff are also exceptional. Our server last night, Martin, was amazing! The chef is great and the included breakfast is quite special as the morning service staff were so accommodating and professional and they will make you whatever you want. The manager personally met us at 5 am to assist us getting to the airport for an early flight. We loved our stay here and will never forget how special this property is along with the incredible people who work there. We absolutely loved it and it was a perfect end to our...
