We enjoyed our experience at Hula Hula overall. I don’t like to leave bad reviews or complain, BUT there are a few things that can be improved. The waiters give off the impression that you’re annoying them or bothering them when asking simple questions… They don’t have a smile on their face and seem grumpy/upset. Maybe they are tired from the tourist season and have less tolerance for tourists…. I don’t know. I was surprised at how expensive the cocktails were, but it didn’t stop us from ordering 2 drinks each. When it was almost time to pay the bill, the waiter told us “btw it’s only cash payment”. So we obliged and took cash out of the ATM near the bar. The conversion rate sucked, as expected. (I didn’t see any signs saying cash only). We wanted to have somewhere to sit, order drinks & food, as well as go swimming to cool off. When I asked one of the waiters if it’s ok that I use the dock stairs to enter the water and go for a swim even though we didn’t purchase a sun bed on the other side (20 euro each for the day), he replied with “it’s a beach club, not a prison” with a straight face. Anyway, beautiful location. Fun experience despite poor service and grumpy staff. Bring cash and brush off any expectation of enthusiastic, welcoming waiters. Lovely...
Read moreReally bad experience. The place is nice during sunset, a lot of people and the dj gives a nice environment but doesn't compensate the awful service. We ordered our drinks and after we finished the server asked if we wanted more or the check. As we didn’t want to order more right away we asked for the check. We were told the place doesn’t accept card payments (not true) so one of us went to an ATM to get cash. Not even 5minutes after that person went, a group of girls arrives to the bar and the server comes to our table and asks if we are getting up. We say we would like to stay a bit longer. He replied “but these girls need a table”. We replied that we are still waiting for our friend to come with the cash and that we had drinks so we would like stay seated there. The server replied “maybe you can wait standing by the bar” and added that the girls booked a table (not true since the girls confirmed they didn't). The table we were in had no indication of being reserved, we were only picked to stand and give our table. After this we didn't even feel like staying there for longer. It was an awful service, the server was rude and an even worst experience when we paid 16€ per drink. It gets worse when there are other reviews describing exactly the...
Read moreIf you want to run a “cash only” business where the average bill is well over $100, then you should put a sign out front, on the top of the menu, and have the waiter tell customers BEFORE ordering that it is “CASH ONLY”
Most people don’t carry around that much cash. I only had 100 kuna and a credit card. I went to pay and my card was refused. I was then told to go to the atm. I had to explain that you cannot take cash out of the atm with a credit card. I told them I could either give them the 100 kuna I had, they could bill my credit card, or I could leave and they could call the police.
Guess what? They magically produced a credit card machine and of course charged my card an extra 3.5% to cover the commission. And then the waiter rattled off some very insulting stuff about me as a tourist in Croatian as if it was somehow my fault for not being a mind reader that the restaurant was “CASH ONLY” If a high priced restaurant is too cheap to accept credit cards (which usually have about a 2% commission), you have to wonder what else they are cutting corners in. The grilled shrimps I ordered we’re not fully cooked. The view was nice, but 150 Kuna to use a sunbed is far...
