You know that moment when you're wandering the streets, stomach growling, and Google Maps flashes a magical 4.8 stars and a single dollar sign? Jackpot, right? That’s what lured me- and eventually the rest of our pack- to this tiny seafood street-food joint in Zadar. Spoiler: we were catfished.
This place is not a restaurant. It’s a deep-fried outpost (a good one), a takeout-only dive with the charm of a pop-up kitchen and the seating options of a construction site. There are no real tables, no service to speak of, no glasses unless you overpay for wine, and your best shot at dinner ambiance is dodging uneven pavement while balancing a cardboard box of lukewarm fries.
The crew running it are young, enthusiastic, and clearly trying. But this is more start-up energy than seasoned hospitality.
Let’s talk food: Fish tacos are drenched in generic squeeze-bottle sauce. Fish and chips? Yours might be hot and crispy if the fryer gods smile upon you, but mine came with fries that were more “potato suggestions” than food.
The gnocchi are surprisingly good- maybe the best item worth attempting to eat at one of the wobbly high tables.
This isn’t a sit-down meal. It’s a “grab one thing, walk away fast” kind of place. And sure, for young, hungry, one-item street food pilgrims, it’s a hit. Maybe that’s who left those glowing reviews - between bites and before the indigestion.
But if you’re the type who regrets walking past a proper restaurant just to save a few bucks, this will haunt you. Not because it’s bad, but because it could be great. Right now, though, it’s just okay. A solid 4 stars is generous. 3.8 feels honest.

Read moreI had a wonderful experience at Fish House Zadar, where I enjoyed some of the best street food I have ever tasted. The food was very fresh, flavorful, and satisfying. I ordered the fish and chips, which came with a generous portion of crispy fries and a tangy tartar sauce. The fish was perfectly cooked, moist and tender on the inside, and crunchy on the outside. The batter was light and not greasy at all. It was a simple but delicious dish that I would highly recommend.
The staff at Fish House Zadar were very friendly and attentive. They served me with a smile and made sure I had everything I needed. The service was fast and efficient, and the prices were very reasonable for the quality and quantity of food.
Fish House Zadar is a must-visit place for anyone who loves street food and seafood. It is a cozy and casual place that welcomes everyone with its warm atmosphere and tasty food. I would definitely come back here again and try more of their dishes. Fish House Zadar is one of the best places to eat street...
Read moreI visited this place for the first time, tempted by the reviews. Right from the start, I was struck by how unfriendly and unpleasant the staff were — two girls working as “waitresses.” I didn’t have much time before my flight, and no one informed me how long I would have to wait for my order. When I wanted to ask if it could be packed to go, (I didn’t even get the chance to ask) one of the girls carrying my burger, rudely responded to my question (“is this my order?”) with, “we’ll bring it to you, she already told you.” All I wanted was to ask for a takeaway container. It completely killed my appetite.
On top of that, both the burger and the fries were completely cold. Maybe I just came on a “bad day,” and perhaps my experience would be better a second time, but I won’t be trying again. If someone has no desire to work with people and respond to customers’ smiles with a smile, maybe they should consider changing...
