This restaurant was a good surprise. By far the best one in the entire city.
Nothing about this restaurant is pretentious, yet everything is perfect. The ambience is great, the staff are incredibly friendly and generous, and the food it so simple yet so delicious.
I did not order any starters. I just went straight to the menu area that said typical dalmatian food since I haven't had any at all since the start of my trip.
Out of recommendation, I went for this delicious chickpea and cuttlefish stew, served with a generous basket of fresh bread. This stew was otherworldly, simple ingredients prepared with so much care. I also had the fried smelts that were super fresh and tasted amazingly good, once again very simple, local ingredients. This was also a very generous portion of tiny little fish, could easily be a starter for two people.
Together with my meal, I had a large local beer.
Altogether, I paid 39,25€.
In the end, as I was about to pay, I asked about this traditional local spirit called maraschino, made with some cherry variety existent only in dalmatia. The staff was so kind and gave me a glass of this spirit, on the house!
I felt at home in this restaurant. Felt the real Croatian vibe for the first time, with traditional music playing in the background and also locals enjoying their meals there. I had lovely conversations with different members of staff, which were all very kind and happy to teach me some croatian and also learn some portuguese.
It's definitely my go-to restaurant when I am ever back in Zadar. I strongly...
Read moreDon’t go here if you are in Zadar. We were just walking down the street when a waitress was outside this restaurant hassling us and being so persistent that they have the “best” food, and we decided to give it a try. Should have known they don’t even come close to that, considering they were practically dragging us in off the street.
We started with an octopus salad which was actually quite good...but really didn’t make up for the rest of the experience or the way we were treated. How is it acceptable to tell your customers, “if you don’t like the food you can slap me in the face.”
Their seafood soup used frozen shrimp, despite being next to the ocean and having access to fresh seafood. The soup also had uncooked rice inside!! The scampi was over cooked, dry and inedible. Gnocchi tasted more like mashed potatoes. Parts of the meat in the gnocchi dish were tender while others couldn’t even be cut through with the knife.
The waitress kept coming to the table asking how we like the food, when we finally told her what is mentioned above, she said they won’t charge us for the meat dish. When it came time to pay, they wouldn’t accept our credit card (probably afraid we will dispute the charges). To top it all off, not only did they not remove the dish we didn’t eat from the bill like they promised, they charged it TWICE. This place had bad food, bad service, and is just plain dishonest. There are many more luxurious restaurants with an ocean view and really delicious food we went to in Zadar, don’t...
Read moreA DISASTER CONCERNING SERVICE! We waited for 10 minutes in front of the restaurant and asked the waiter multiple times where we could sit, but it looked like we were invisible to him. So we took the matter in our own hands and went sitting at a free table. We took the menu ourselves. The waiter took orders for all the tables around ours, but forgot us (again)... We kept waiting and waiting and no one was coming back outside. When we saw the waiter after like 15 - 20 minutes, we asked if we could order. He nodded, but went back inside. We didn't see him back. The other tables that ordered before us didn't even have their drinks yet... After another 10 minutes we left the place and passed the waiter. He didn't even see us leaving... We think he was in over his head and was glad he had a table less to serve. We went to another restaurant and they took our order directly, so I'm very sure we don't possess the power of invisibility... Really, not a way of having a restaurant....
