Trattoria Colosseum — Restaurant in Grad Zadar

We came here because it was the only place that could seat 7 of us, we later found out that it was because it was this bad! We though it was some gem that everyone overlooked when we got our food served in around 30 minutes, but when we took our first bite we realized that it was actually a lot worse than it seemed. The chicken was plain and dry on one part, and wet and oily on another, the pasta was tasteless and overcooked. It felt like they've never heard the concept of seasoning. The "grilled vegetables" dish is also just green and red pepper with a slice of cucumber and 3 dls of oil, not to mention the so caller tartar that is really just mayonnaise. The food also came in small proportions and wasn't even enough for a 10 year old. It was way too overpriced compared to how much worse it was than cheaper restaurants. The waitress didn't understand English properly, and couldn't communicate with us, we had to show them the food we wanted on the menu. I would rather eat in some no-name fastfood restaurant than this place, and advise...

I generally avoid leaving negative reviews, but unfortunately, this experience deserves one.

From the start, the presentation was unappealing — the menus were old, sticky, and clearly not well-maintained. The service was particularly disappointing. Initially, we had one server, who was later replaced by someone who seemed inexperienced and unprepared. We ordered Black Angus steaks and ćevapi, but the server failed to ask for our preferred level of doneness. I had to follow up myself to ensure it was communicated, yet the steaks still arrived medium rare — not to our request — and much of the meat was left uneaten.

As I could consider myself a tourist who comes to Zadar every single year, I have a kind of good local knowledge especially in restaurants.

But I was really shocked by this restaurant in every aspect. First of all, simply overpriced. Our food was completely terrible all in all. I would point out the worst examples: the bruschetta was a simply a grilled sandwich, also the seafood pastas had only some tiny scampis inside (nothing more), on an other dish the rice was not cooked well (how could thing happen, I mean seriously), and the lasagne was simply comparable to a freezed one in a supermarket and the fish was missing out of the fish soup etc. Also the toilet is simply disgusting.
