I had a great experience at Foša. To start off Zadar in summer is quite overrun by tourists and almost every restaurant is at full capacity. This made Foša quite a refreshing change. It's located right on the water outside of the city walls - though not at all far from the centre - making it a very quiet and secluded spot. We had stupidly forgotten to make a reservation beforehand, but we were seated in no time and could wait at a bar overlooking the sea. We opted for the 5 course tasting menu, and the food was really good, though we agreed that it got progressively worse. The menu started off strong with a selection of excellent amuse bouches and two sashimi starters, the first being a dry-aged and marinated white fish and the second an outstanding grade tuna (for continental Europe) prepared three ways. We continued with some scampi tortellini, which were good, but unfortunately somewhat spoiled by the incredibly thick slices of truffle on top. In my opinion, truffle is something to be used delicate- and sparingly, not in such excess, resulting in a bit of a gritty mouth feel. Still a good course though. The see bass Wellington is a play on the popular beef variety and it was only ok. The side of vegetables was good. The desert is the only dish we didn't enjoy. Very sweet and rubberise, not really to our taste. The wine was good, though I wish they had a better selection of alcohol-free beverages. Maybe some juices to accompany the dishes. I am sure they'd manage well. Altogether I would really recommend this place. It's a really secluded and romantic spot, and it is also possible to spend a little less and opting for à la carte dining.

From the second we stepped into Foša, we knew we were in for a treat. Nestled in the heart of Zadar old town, the restaurant welcomes you with warm lighting, elegant decor, and a calm, inviting ambiance that sets the stage for an unforgettable dining experience. The outdoor terrace with the sea next to you gives a feeling of luxury and tranquility. The food is an art for your eyes and a simphony of flavours that danced on the palate. Each mouthful was delicious, and the presentation just blew us away. Chef Damir Tomljanović took us through a trip of flavors. His artistry in the kitchen transforms quality ingredients into memorable moments. Despite a crowded restaurant, he took the time to come and say hello at our table and gave me the pleasure to take o photo with him. A humble genius with a passion for his craft. The attention to detail and devotion to guest service distinguishes you from the competition. The waiters with their genuine warmth and courteousy made us feel at home and ensuring that our whole meal experience was flawless. Foša is not just a restaurant; it’s a destination. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or simply want to treat yourself to top-tier cuisine and service, this gem deserves every bit of its acclaim. We can’t wait to return.

We made reservations for 19:00 a few weeks before our trip, but you could easily have walked in and gotten a table. The service was amazing, with four waiters and a sommelier for wine pairing. We had several glasses of wine and the tasting menu (an 8-course set). The food was spectacular, and despite other claims not showing "regional flair," I disagree. The food was well-sourced from local areas and represented the fishing and mountainous regions of central Croatia. The meal was equal to a Michelin 1-star and priced accordingly. The total bill was about 2,000 Kuna for two people with wine pairing and the 8-set. Food was presented well, and unlike other high-end restaurants, you won't feel like getting a second dinner; they do a good balance between amount and display. The shrimp carpaccio was elegant and fluffy, the Amber-Jack was tender and cold, the starter was an array of flavours that whetted the appetite. Overall, prepare for the meal to take a few hours. For us, it took 3hrs, which was well spent watching the sunset, listening to the ocean, watching boats pass, and taking a leisurely dinner. Thank you so much for an unforgettable experience.

I attempted a visit to Fosa. I asked where I could sit to have a drink- it’s 4 pm and I don’t know if I’m ready for dinner. The restaurant is empty except for two tables. I’ve heard from multiple sources that this is a wonderful place for seafood and drinks. The server told me they don’t offer seatings for drinks, only lunch or dinner. There is no bar seating. I agree and will order some fish as this was recommended to me. As we are walking to a table, the server says “by the way, grilled vegetables or soup or something like this are not considered lunch. You need to order an entree”. Clearly I was not visibly someone he expected to be visiting his restaurant. I asked for the wine list and food menu before committing to a table. The menu didn’t offer the kinds of sparkling wines I was interested in tasting, but I agreed to get some oysters and try some other kind of wine. He informed me they do not have oysters now. I asked what they did have, and he said there were “plenty of options”. The menu was actually very limited and was very much dinner options in size and price, although it was only 4 pm. I informed the server that I did not appreciate the tone in which he spoke to me and that I felt quite judged. I will not be returning to this restaurant and will instead visit the other 4 or 5 star restaurants in the city with a more extensive wine list and the seafood they offer on the menu actually in the restaurant. Needless to say I’m very disappointed by the way this individual treated a...

This was a very disappointing experience. We went in excited and somehow left in a bad mood. We felt very unwelcome from the moment our server approached us. I work in fine dining. So I know that when you go to a place like this, you expect to really be taken care of. Instead, I felt like a burden to the server every time I spoke to him. It felt more like we were there to take care of him. I would consider my girlfriend and I very easy going and friendly people, so we didn’t understand why this was the case; it appears, based on the reviews, that many other people have had this issue as well though. On top of this our server kept forgetting things we ordered; I never even received the glass of wine I ordered with my meal. I felt it was respectful to still tip him well, but I did not feel he deserved it. The food was pretty good, but it definitely fell very short for the price tag. I didn’t think it was any better than most other restaurants that are even half decent. I am a bit confused how this place was recognized by Michelin. It doesn’t feel good when you leave a place feeling very frustrated by how much money you spent for a bad experience. We went to a little wine bar nearby afterwards and received much better and friendlier service. Pretentiousness and arrogance are not cool. Unfortunately, I don’t...
