We were delighted to find this little gem of a place hidden deep in the mountains of Cyprus!
We went to Omodos village to be away from all the 'beach holiday' tourists along the coast and we saw this beautiful tavern as we pulled into the car park in front of us!
We originally went in for drinks, but everything smelt so good and it was quite misty and nippy outside so we decided to have our dinner there and so glad we did!
We had their Sunday's set mezze which was a meal that kept on coming!! We started from wonderful salads and dips, moved to dolmas, sausages, chicken, a wonderful liver and onion dish, mushrooms and so much more!! For dessert, we had a wonderfully moist cake with Greek coffee, and it was divine!
What made this place extra special was the hospitality! I think we talked to at least two or three members of staff for a good 10-15 minutes and their life stories were just out of this world movie material amazing!
I feel we didn't just go there for dinner, we went for an experience that is going to live in my memory for a long long time!
Thanks to everyone at Ambelothea and hope to see you...

I was guided to a table and had a drink and ordered. Really nice chicken souvlaki with potatoes and salad. Some nice conversation with the patrons. I got married in a very nice hotel in Limassol, cost a fortune.. With hindsight I would have come here, some live music, meze for all. And at half the price. And the location is spectacular, the views are amazing, Cyprus...

The koupepia (stuffed grape leaves) were outstanding, the moussaka, especially the meat version, was rich and flavorful, the village sausages were excellent, and the homemade local dessert was a real treat. On top of that, the owner was incredibly warm and kind....
