Oenou Yi Winery — Attraction in Omodos

Yesterday, my friends and I had the pleasure of indulging in a remarkable wine tasting journey at Oenou Yi - Ktima Vassiliades Winery, where modern elegance harmonized beautifully with the timeless allure of wine. From the moment we stepped into the sleek, marble-clad building, we knew we were in for a treat.

The interior, adorned with clean lines and bathed in soft, inviting lighting, exuded contemporary charm. The ambiance was vibrant yet intimate, setting the stage for an unforgettable experience.

Guided by our knowledgeable sommelier, we embarked on a sensory adventure through a captivating selection of wines. From crisp whites to robust reds, each pour revealed the intricate nuances of its origin and craftsmanship.

However, what truly captivated our hearts and palates was the Commandaria. As a connoisseur of fine wines, Commandaria holds a special place in my heart, and I must say, the Commandaria offered by [Name of the Winery/Venue] surpassed all expectations. Shame on them. Absolute rubbish. Lovely building and great ambient music but all downhill from there. Very limited menu for a Sunday lunch with three mains only. I had the smashed burger which was 25 euros with fries. Most ingredients were off the supermarket shelf, nothing prepared on the premises and to hazard a guess the “sauce” was Heinz barbecue sauce. My husband ordered the omelette of which any cook would be ashamed of. Bland, color less, flabby and kind of grey. It was almost inedible. The order took too long to come to the table. We ate as we were hungry and it was too late to go elsewhere. Also, much to our utter astonishment the management/ owners sat at the main table in the center of the restaurant eating take away bought in from somewhere else. Pork Souvla, roast potatoes, cous cous etc. NOT ON THE MENU. they did have a salad that was prepared in the kitchen though. Also they had their own domestic maid working on Sunday waiting on them hand and foot fetching plates back and forth. The experience is one of a kind. Beautiful setting with a panoramic view to Omodos village in Troodos mountains and the unique 17th century stone-built Μοναστήρι του Τιμίου Σταυρού. The winery Οίνου Γη is one of the finest in Cyprus. Beginning with the vineyard where the grapes are growing accompanied by the beautiful blossoms of Rosa Damascena and ends with the stunning flavours of the wines produced. Starting with Ασύρτικο, continuing with Ξυνιστέρι and Βασίλισσα 2022 and 2023 and topping with Premium Ξινιστέρι 2020, which has heavenly sweet nose but dry mouth and rounds up with great success the white wines tasting. We finished with red one cuvee, Κουμανταρία, which was one of the best dessert wines tasted ever - it is produced strictly adhering to the tradition and the other traditional Cypriot drink - Ζιβανία. drink that encloses the entire tradition of Cyprus in a glass.
