We had dinner here on a busy Saturday evening in July. The meal was very good (Chicken Souvla and Pork Souvla) apart from a pretty awful red wine that was recommended on the menu as "Uncle Sophocles' red wine". But ignoring the red wine, what would keep me from ever returning to this taverna and why my overall rating is so low, is the wait times. We were given a table as soon as we arrived, then literally sat for 40 minutes as staff bustled around us tending to other patrons, before we finally received a menu and were then, later, visited by a waiter to take our order. The food arrived in a reasonable amount of time, but when we completed, it was another 40 minutes before we could pay. Unable to attract wait staff, I gave up and walked to the bar to insist on paying our bill. We were one couple of about 4 filled tables at that point. I suspect that only two of the wait staff were allowed to take payments and one of those two was busy visiting with an acquaintance at one table in the restaurant.
The wait staff was woefully understaffed for a busy weekend night and the staff that were in the restaurant didn't seem to care about timely service. I haven't experienced a weekday night at Hondros, but don't...

We ordered three pork kebabs. One of them tasted and smelled significantly different from the others; it was clear the meat wasn't fresh. When I brought this to the waiter's attention and asked for a replacement, there were no issues initially. However, then the manager appeared with the plate and completely ruined the experience, insisting that three customers were wrong and he was right. He even tasted the meat from the plate and declared it excellent. While they originally offered to replace the dish, which we were fine with, our interaction with the terrible manager made us decline the offer. Ultimately, that portion was removed from the bill, but the manager's attitude severely soured our mood. We have no desire to return here, not because of the meat incident itself, but entirely because of the manager's demeanor and dismissiveness. This restaurant has prices higher than similar places, and the...
Read moreAte here last night. Was always put off by the fact that it was in the 'tourist' area, but, as they say, never judge a book by it's cover.
I was with several guests and we sat at the back where the tables were kept for our party.
We opted for the meze, which I think was €25 a head. Lots of local dishes, but the thing was, they were well cooked and well seasoned. Salad, dips and pitta started things off, followed by potato salad, beetroot and a coleslaw salad minus the mayonnaise. Then came the hot dishes including; mushrooms, liver, loukanika, halloumi, lountza, souvlaki, sieftalia, pourgouri, chicken souvla and pork souvla. Pitta bread was replenished too. A local chap came around and played his bouzouki around some of the tables where the tourists were sitting which was entertaining. The oldest taverna in Paphos? I...
