Only open 2 days a week for dinner and almost every day for lunch, if you want dinner you must book and give plenty of notice to avoid disappointment. Lunch you could probably get away with not booking unless you go in peak season. Traditional food that feels authentic, since they are only open a few hours for lunch (last orders are at 2.30pm) they clearly cook a set amount of each of the dishes and then just serve it up as it's ordered as food comes out within about 5 mins so you don't spend long seated! Most of the dishes are the styles that are slow cooked so this didn't bother me. We weren't offered dessert menus etc so not sure if they only do desserts at dinner but they brought out complimentary melon cubes and there were plenty of other customers with post meal tea/ coffee. We both really enjoyed our food my partner had the stuffed vegetables and I had beef sufida, mine was quite salty but I still enjoyed it and the stuffed vegetables were extremely popular. Service was more functional than overly friendly but the main guy would be happy to answer any questions I saw him giving out recipe instructions, directions etc once you scratch the surface. Most if not all dishes were priced at 14EUR. I'd definitely go back and try to get...
Read morePerfect service, homely feel. Prices very correct, but to note that menu is not very flexible.
However, neither the fish nor the pork marinated in wine were delicious, which is difficult to say about food in Cyprus. Kleftiko drier than the most I tried in Cyprus, but tasty. Vegetables stuffed with meat and rice reallyyyy delicious. Fish made in over over a bed of vegetables a little bit too muddy and otherwise tasteless. The pork marinated in wine and cooked in casserole was two slices of bacon portion of the pig, rather tasteless. Everything was served with rice (tasty) and potatoes (simple broiled potatoes).
It’s sad to go to a homely Cypriot restaurant, rated one of the best in Paphos, and say almost with every dish “It could have been much better if this or that”. There’s many other option in the town, which are a bit more expensive but much tastier (like Hondros) or even at the same price range (Estia Ouzeri).
Most of servers seemed lost, searching tables with plates in the hand, asking around if it’s their dish. Atmosphere otherwise agreeable, especially if you reserve a table outside.
I’d give a 2.5-3, sad especially when I was so ready to have a perfect homely...
Read moreI recently visited Laona in Paphos, and while the service and ambiance were quite pleasant, the food left much to be desired. The atmosphere of the restaurant was cozy, with friendly staff who made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. However, when it came to the culinary experience, the dishes resembled more of a cafeteria style than what one would expect from a restaurant. The flavors were heavy and greasy, lacking the finesse and creativity that can elevate a dining experience. The presentation was also quite basic, which further detracted from the overall enjoyment of the meal. To add to this, the prices were relatively high compared to what was offered, making it feel like a poor value for the quality of food served. If you are someone who enjoys hearty, cafeteria-style food, then Laona might be the right place for you. But for those seeking a more refined dining experience, I would recommend exploring other...
