Faros Fish Tavern — Restaurant in Polis Chrysochous

From the moment we sat down things felt a bit off. We waited 20 to 25 minutes for the waiter to come and take our order in. First thing: A waiter in Cyprus should be able to speak Greek. Half of the staff in Faros couldn't!! The dips were fine but the Pita bread, which we were charged 2 portions, had 6 x 1/4 pieces so we really only got 1 and a half pita (unsatisfactory portion size). Moving on to the main dishes, seafood carbonaras and the mixed grill were good (but not great) and Fish meze for 2 which was pretty good. Their fried calamari is the best! The downsides are:

1. their olive-lemon dressing was too sour, very bad
2. staff doesn't know greek, made mistakes that they really shouldn't have. (We were brought our food by 2 waiters and the one with our empty plates left, leaving us with food and no plates for another 2 minutes 🤦) 3)Unsatisfactory portion size for pitas

All in all, I wouldn't...

The food was very good. Portions were a nice size, and it was all at a good price. I've been there two days in a row, and both times, I've had friendly service from the waiters and a very nice time overall. It has good views of the ocean and there's a wide variety of food and drinks. They had good freindlyness to kids as my brother and I are 1 and 12. They even gave my brother extra good care, asking about water temperature for him and even bringing it out in a special cup and straw. Though we don't have a wheelchair, there was still a ramp to enter the restaurant, and the doors open widly enough to enter large objects. There were options for any people who were vegetarian, and adjustments could easily be made for dietary restrictions. As for parking, there is a spacious and rather empty car park not too far away, and the restaurant is a short walk...

Today we have been to this "restaurant". My mother and I ordered a mixed fish plate. We were realy excited as the fish was displayed. After we received the plate we were devastated. The three different fish species were fried, some still had their guts in it... The chips were made from scratch which seems nice, yet the oil must have had a low temp.. They were cold in the middle, soggy and had no flavor at all - despite the rancid oil... The side salad had no dressing or any sort of liquid/spice on at all. After the sad meal we wanted to complain, the "nice" waiter was kind enough to explain that we were the fault, not the kitchen. There couldn't be any problems since he never received a complain in his three years Career. Good to know!
