I recently visited the Island Bar in Latchi, Cyprus, and while the ambiance and location had always been appealing, I was deeply disappointed by a significant issue that marred the experience. The bar employs an incredibly powerful spotlight that projects its beam into the night sky, illuminating the heavens for miles around Latchi. This practice has troubling implications, particularly in a region like Cyprus where sea turtles nest on the beaches during the summer months.
The issue at hand is the harmful impact of light pollution. The excessive brightness created by the spotlight can have detrimental effects on the natural environment, especially the local sea turtle population. During the nesting season, these turtles rely on natural cues, such as moonlight reflecting off the ocean, to guide them back to the sea. However, the intense artificial illumination from the spotlight can severely disrupt their navigation and disorient them. This interference could potentially lead to disoriented hatchlings moving away from the sea, endangering their survival.
I find myself wondering about the authority that granted permission for such an installation. It's disheartening to witness an establishment prioritize such a glaring display without considering the potential ecological consequences. The legal aspect of this issue raises questions about the approval process for such installations and whether local environmental impact assessments were taken into account.
Furthermore, the excessive use of this light cannon raises concerns about energy wastage and environmental harm. In a time when energy conservation and sustainable practices are paramount, such a lavish use of energy feels irresponsible and out of touch with the urgent need to protect our planet.
It's unfortunate to witness the management of a place I've cherished make a decision that could potentially harm the local ecosystem and disrupt the natural beauty of the area. While the Island Bar still holds its charm, I hope that the management reconsiders the use of such excessive lighting and works towards a more environmentally conscious approach to preserving the beauty of Latchi and its...
Read moreWe walked in and chose a table, a waitress immediately gave us menu's to look over. We had made up our minds quite quickly. We placed the menu's down which I assumed would be interpreted as we are ready to order. We was made to wait. We checked that they weren't overly busy. 5 other tables and it looked like 5 staff. We kept looking over to the bar to try and signal that we ready. Nothing... I can only assume there was some extremely important newsflash on their phone as they were holding their attention more than the customers. We eventually ordered a strawberry daiquiri and pina colada. We had our drinks and the pina colada had way too much ice. We got up and made our way to the bar to settle the bill. They apologised for the wait but the damage was done. The bar has a fantastic location but bad service will leave a bitter taste. Please take this feedback and act on it so others don't have the...

Always greeted by beautiful smiles doesn't matter who is working on shift at the time. Tasos Petra, ipodamia, Andre and the rest of the team, everyone is friendly and customer service is top notch. Even in the summer months during the warm weather they are always running but always with a smile on their face.
