Unfortunately, our visit to Il Bacaro in Nicosia was disappointing, especially when it came to the food. While the ambiance and decor were cozy and inviting, and the dishes arrived quickly, the positives ended there.
We ordered the following:
Tagliatelle with Mushrooms: While the pasta was perfectly cooked, the sauce was bland and tasteless, leaving the dish underwhelming. Gnocchi with Gorgonzola Cheese Sauce: Slightly better than the tagliatelle, the sauce had a decent consistency, but it still lacked the depth of flavor expected from such a dish. Cannelloni with Spinach and Ricotta: This was the most disappointing dish. The filling and béchamel were completely flavorless, resembling foam in texture. The only noticeable flavor came from the cheese topping. Pizza: The pizza failed to impress as well. The dough was subpar, and the cheese-to-sauce ratio was poorly balanced. It wasn’t as bad as the cannelloni, but it was no better than a supermarket-bought pizza.
The service left much to be desired. The waiter was slightly rude and awkward, which detracted from the overall experience.
While the prices were reasonable, the quality of food and service did not justify them.
Despite its lovely ambiance, Il Bacaro failed to deliver where it matters most. The food was largely tasteless and disappointing, and the service added to the negative experience. I would not recommend this restaurant and certainly would...
Read moreThe pizzas and salads are really good. However: (a) Tables outside are very close to one another. Once I was sitting outside and the last half an hour I had to suffer the heavy smell of cigar of a guy who was practically sitting next to me. (b) When you sit inside and they have all doors open, you still get all the smell of smokers who sit outside, which is not nice. (c) Last time I was there I ordered “figs & prosciutto” pizza, and it arrived without a single tiny piece of fig. When I pointed that out, making it clear that the main reason I had chosen that pizza were the figs, the waiter went and asked, returned and told me “We are really sorry, but the chef forgot the figs. We will gladly make you another one or bring you figs on the side.” I rejected both offers (I didn’t want to extend the inconvenience to my companion, nor to have a pizza with …figs on the side) and was curious to see whether at least they would have the decency to not charge me for the pizza (in a bill that included several other things). Well, they didn’t (have that decency), they fully charged me for it. Very good food (especially when you receive what you order), but disappointing service and not...
Read moreThis unassuming and relatively small bar/winery/tavern is so much more than it looks. For starters, its cocktails are very competently prepared and delicious. Secondly the food...real high standards are obviousl from the look of the serving to the feel of the quality ingredients. Our steak exactly as ordered and every morsel soft and cooked to a satiny feel at cutting, and a velvety savoury taste in the mouth. I haven't yet been to a better place in Cyprus in all my 57 years here. The pizza is crusty but not dry on the side and softer in the middle. Its subtle combinations of ingredients blend superbly, no overpowering taste, just a perfectly smooth blend of cheese and ingredients. The interior is a lot better than the outer part. A rustic bar interior complemented by modest modern comfortable seatings. Superbly catered by young staff, jovial and natural,...
