We like the image of the place. It looks very shaby. It has its own character. We have been to the restaurant approximately 12 times. And that already says alot. Or does it The service is typical Indian style. Very relaxed up to the point when you could call it lazy and ask yourself if they even care about the customers. But even though it takes them a long time they will smile most the time and make you feel welcome. When I start to get annoyed is when they completely forget your order. And that happend twice and once they brought us different food but I was ok and ate whatever they brought me. They ask you what do you pay even when you pay the whole bill and that just makes me question... Do they even keep track of the stuff we ordered.
I sat at a table and observed how one table of newly arrived customers was ignored for 20 minutes until they left :D thats what you have to expect sometimes and speak up.
You could say that I am too forgiving and you wouldn't be too far from truth. I guess Annapurna worked on me through the time and with each visit peeled away one layer of offended attitude up to the point where I expect these things to happen and I don't mind at all, I maybe even like em! Crazy.
Anyway. If you are in a hurry, stressed or just not in a mood for imperfection I would recommend you to skip this restaurant. If you are relaxed and just want to have some OK Indian food....
Read moreAlthough I live in the Czech Republic and originally come from Tunisia — where I’m used to high-quality Mediterranean cuisine — Indian food has never really been my favorite. However, after traveling frequently between the UK and India recently, I had the chance to try excellent Indian dishes in high-end restaurants, which changed my perspective. When I visited Annapurna Indian Restaurant in Brno, I expected the food to be average. That’s partly because food in the Czech Republic is generally not outstanding, and Indian cuisine isn’t usually my first choice. But I was genuinely surprised by how rich and varied the menu was, and how flavorful and interesting the dishes turned out to be. It was a pleasant and delicious experience overall.
The only downside for me was the location. The restaurant is in a basement in a less attractive part of town, and the presence of mold was noticeable, which affected the atmosphere. Additionally, I found the use of food coloring in some dishes — especially in sauces and on the chicken in the Tandoori Mix — to be excessive and unappealing. It looked unnatural and unhealthy, almost like paint. That said, the Special Mix was truly delicious and well-prepared. Despite a few drawbacks, I would still recommend Annapurna for its authentic flavors and...
Read moreWe visited this restaurant on a recommendation from our walking tour guide. Don't be fooled by the delicious smell as you approach the restaurant, the food does not live up to expectations. We ordered onion Baji, pilau rice, papadum, chicken "fal", lamb madras and a garlic naan. The Baji tasted like it was fried too long with more batter than onion, the pilau rice was oily and had flavourless vegetables mixed in. Meat aside there was absolutely no difference between the flavour or appearance of the madras and "fal" sauce. They were both oily and had quite a strong vinegar taste like cheap tomato ketchup. The chicken itself was fine but the lamb was chewy.
The only positive point of the whole meal was the papadum and the very spicy raita it was served with.
The staff didn't at any point ask if our meal was alright or ask if we wanted more drinks. They seemed completely uninterested after taking our order. There have to be better Indian restaurants than...
