Yam Yam — Restaurant in Prague

Normaly, I am way busy person, and I don’t have time for restaurant reviews, but today, after my 40 minutes long toilet encounter after yesterday Yam Yam restaurant visit, I was provided by just enough of time to write something down. I am Asian food lover. I spet couple of months in asia, 2 years in New Zealand (20% of population is from asia), and rich experiences form vietnam restaurants all over the Czech republic, so I will always lean on my indisputed experience in this field of gastronomy. I’ve been living in Prague for a while, I have tried SaPa bistros, and most of the Asian restaurants as well as couple of running sushi in town. (before I lived in Brno, I tried all of asian restaurants there, easily ended up eating asian foood every day). Obviously, Yum Yum was on the list hovever, yesterday’s visit wasn’t first one. Last time we went to YumYum we had to leave after 20 minuts because we were completely ignored by staff. We gave it next try and here I am… writing review how YumYum ruined my Sunday, and my Monday’s panties. As I sh*t myself on my way to work. Yam Yam - This Asia fusion kind of restaurant is nicely situated just next to a public toilet by the comunist Pankrac metro station. Despite of this terrible set up, prices are 50% about avarage of Asian restaurant in CR. We didn’t mind. We were on Sundays luch, and we are in, so be called “good restaurant”.

We are ordering from tattoed waitter Taped bear, Glass of watter , and the most evergreen stars of asian cuisine: bum bo nam bo and Pad thai (both beaf). waitter is kind of profesional, but don’t expect any smile. In a while he’s back with terrible taped bear with no sparkle in it and glass of watter. Now I gonna stop a while by that glass of watter. This SMALL glass of TAPED water cost 30 czk, I mean like realy? no citron? no herbs? Just a tapped watter for 30 CZK ? – this is kind of prize for half pint of czech lager in this country, so one would expect much more. Never mind, we are wainting for food. After 30 minutes of waitng in half empty Outside garden, and 100% empty inside of restaurant, we are finaly about to get our meals. And this is the moment when the real horror starts.

Pad thai – tasteless, one could cout mungo’s on fingers on his hand. Only tast was kind of sockish, I had fealing the meat was already rotten. Chilly dry and old, with socksish flavor. The second worst in my life. ( only worst was 4 a.m. pad thai on khao san road in Bangbangkok)

bum bo nam bo – meat super salty – I mean uneatable salty. almost no vegetables, tasteless gravy. The worst bum bo nam bo in my life.

After couple of switches of our meals, we are leaveng both disches half-eaten. My complains met arogance of the staff – so pathetic. At the end, I was agressivly correted by waitter, that YamYam is not a bistro( After I mentioned, that we were super hungry after long wait beside other complains). Well, I don’t mind waiting for 30 min as far as I am in restaurant, with superb food quality, but YamYam, this is not your case, and as far as u realy want to play on High class, posh, top shelf , supercool asia fusion restaurant, you should be atleast able to bring the bill to the customer’s table, as he demands and as it is custom, instead super lame “u have to pay insade policy”.

Overal rating 0/5. This place is rubish with bad staff, bad enviroment, bad food … as far as I can say. I recon most ppl will say that it was good experience, because they have no idea how should asian food taste. Not worthy of your money. Not going back…...

Absolutely vile staff member Racist and unhinged.

We went for lunch here on the 5th of July 2024 as a group of 5. Some of the tables and chairs were left scattered around the restaurant, as we were a party of 5 one of the children with us moved one of the scattered chairs next to our table of 4. Apparently this was all it took for the waiter to fly off the handle in a xenophobic rant at a 13 year old girl, about how much he hates the British and the Scottish, how disgusting we are, and how horrible we all are, and how he hates England and Scotland, and would never go to either country.

This waiter is an awful person and completely unhinged, this aggressive and explosive rant was completely unprovoked, and utterly inappropriate to direct towards a child! Safe to say we left before ordering anything.

Looking at other reviews it seems it isn't an uncommon occurrence to be met with racism and hostility here.

Avoid...

Food is great, cool place with fast and efficent service 👍 what more can you ask for! Breaking out from the Corinthia hotel I found this place by chance opposite the underground. I thought why not give it a try. It's got cool decor, nice music bit hip and trendy The food was 'amazing' all tasted really fresh and with a really nice spice. I had 'chicken spring rolls' to start and 'green chicken curry' with rice as a main, they were both delicious. I had 2 Gin &Tonic and it came with ice and lemon separate ( I asked for the tonic to be on the side). It was just great to make your own. It's quite a find ....a fraction of the price of Rickshaws in Corinthia and much better food - i think it was reasonable in price around £15/€17 food, drinks and a tip. I would definitely recommend this place. English is spoken but it's limited (only issue they could not understand my compliments)
