In the Middle Ages, Vyšehrad area was accessible through two gates - with the Špička Gate in the south and the Jerusalem Gate in the north. According to archaeologists, the second mentioned gate stood in the place of the present Cihelná (Brick) Gate. This would correspond to the existence of the remains of the former medieval road, which still branches off around the middle of Vratislavova Street. The Cihelná (Brick) Gate itself was built in the Empire style in 1841, in connection with the construction of a new road from/to town of Tábor through Vyšehrad. This happened at the initiative of the Prague governor Karel Chotek. The gate consists of a passage and two pedestrian passes, which are supplemented on the sides of the guardhouse. Today there is Infocentre and main entrance to casemates with multimedia projection about Vysehrad.

Read moreWe had THE most fantastic tour guide, Eva Martynková. She had a great sense of humor, kept the group giggling, while at the same time it was obvious she really knows her stuff and managed to explain it in an engaging way, which is rare imo. She made the whole experience feel fun and personal, with just the right balance of facts and jokes. Honestly, the tour wouldn’t have been the same without her! Best tour ever 10/10...
