A Glimpse into Prague's Law Enforcement History Prague's police museums offer a fascinating window into the city's law enforcement history. These institutions showcase the evolution of policing in the Czech Republic, from its medieval roots to modern-day practices. One of the most notable police museums in Prague is the Police Museum of the Czech Republic. Located in the city's Old Town, this museum houses a vast collection of artifacts related to policing, including uniforms, weapons, vehicles, and historical documents. Visitors can learn about the challenges faced by law enforcement officers throughout the centuries, from dealing with crime waves to adapting to political changes. Another interesting option is the Museum of Torture. While not exclusively dedicated to policing, this museum provides a glimpse into the darker side of law enforcement in the past. Visitors can see various torture devices and learn about the methods used to extract confessions and punish criminals. It's a thought-provoking experience that sheds light on the harsh realities of justice systems in earlier times. These police museums are not only informative but also entertaining. They offer a unique opportunity to delve into Prague's past and gain a deeper understanding of the city's culture and history. Whether you're a history buff, a crime enthusiast, or simply looking for something different to do, a visit to one of Prague's police museums is well worth your time.

This place is awesome. It was 50k each to get in. The building itself was beautiful. Big wide hallways and tall ceilings. Very clean with white stone floors all the way through. The exhibits were brilliant and although there were only a few translated into English it was easy to understand what was going on. There are also some interactive exhibits. The one in the traffic room was hilarious!!!! This would be enjoyable for anyone with an interest in policing or military and especially someone with a background from such. There were some exhibits which were obviously relevant to the history of the country such as specific murder cases or high profile incidents (I think natural disasters and incidents with bombs etc) it would have been good if these exhibits had a translation to English but it was all still enjoyable. Unfortunately the garden area was closed which has vehicles and a helicopter on display. These things could be seen however it wasn't a massive loss that the garden was closed. It took about an hour for us to walk round at a leisurley pace. Set aside more time if you can read the language as everything looked interesting!!!

Absolutely incredible. The entry fee is only around $5, and you truly get your money's worth. The exhibitions are extensive, so be sure to allocate plenty of time—we spent two hours there and still didn’t see or interact with everything! If you have even the slightest interest in law enforcement or integrated emergency services, this is a must-visit. The museum features large, detailed exhibits covering various aspects of policing, forensics, and emergency response. There are also plenty of hands-on interactive opportunities, such as trying out the identity kit used for suspect identification and guided video tours at the kiosks. Note: While the interactive kiosks support English and German, the written descriptions of the exhibitions are in Czech only. Highly recommended!

This is technically a museum for Czech people to learn more about their own police force, but even as a foreigner I had a lot of fun here. There are so many things that you can see here like uniforms, motorcycles, cars, artillery, weapons and also the criminalistic hall where there are the descriptions of what it means to work as a detective/criminalist as well as the descriptions of some distrubing cases that took place in the Czech Republic. It is a bit hard visiting it as a foreigner as there are no explanations in English, however the museum is still a lot of fun especially by those who really like this type of things. The entrance fee is also the cheapest I've seen in Prague which is a shame because it is honestly one of the best museums in the city.

The museum is located in the area of former Karlov monastery, which was founded in 1350 by Charles IV. for the Augustinian Order. Four hundred years later, the order was abolished by Emperor Joseph II. and its property fell to the state. At the end of the 18th century an erary warehouse was established in the building, then a hospital for the treatment of contagious diseases, a center for convalescent wars and later as a hospital. In 1960 the building was acquired by the Ministry of the Interior and the State Regional Archives were located here. In the second half of the 20th century, the complex underwent a number of construction work and a significant part of the complex was used for museum purposes. The exhibition of the Museum of the Police of the Czech Republic was first opened to the public on 12 April 1991.
