Vstup do jádra citadely je pokládán za nejkrásnější z Vyšehradských bran. Raně barokní brána byla vystavěna před rokem 1670 podle planů C. Luraga, o kamenickou výzdobu se postaral G. B. Allio. Zatímco zadní strana brány je hladká, průčelní stěna je bohatě sochařsky zdobená. Její čelo je zdobeno pilastry a znaky, na štítu je kamenná plastika orlice, kterou po stranách doplňují koule a kamenné plastiky lvů. Brána je rovněž někdy nazývána jako Francouzská - přestože ji postavili Italové. V příkopu nalevo od brány je vstup do kasemat, které byly součástí obranných hradeb z roku 1742. Počátkem 19. století bylo usouzeno, že brána není obranyschopná a tak byla zazděna. Do hradby na severní straně byl proražen průchod, ke kterému vedl dřevěný můstek. V době postavení dolní Cihelné brány byla zprovozněna silnice přes vyšehradský areál a Leopoldova brána byla opětovně zprovozněna.
The entrance to the core of the citadel is considered to be the most beautiful of the Vyšehrad gates. The Early Baroque gate was built before 1670 according to the plans of C. Lurago, the stone decoration was provided by G. B. Allio. While the back of the gate is smooth, the front wall is richly sculpted. Its forehead is decorated with pilasters and emblems, on the shield is a stone sculpture of an eagle, which is complemented by balls and stone sculptures of lions on the sides. The gate is also sometimes referred to as French - although built by Italians. In the moat to the left of the gate there is the entrance to the casemates, which were part of the defensive walls from 1742. At the beginning of the 19th century the gate was considered as purposeless and so it was walled up. A passage with a wooden bridge led through the wall on the north side.
