My recent stay at this hotel was overall pleasant, but there are a few aspects future travelers might want to be aware of to be prepared.
Pros:
-This was easily the cleanest hotel I stayed at during my entire trip, which was a major plus.
-The staff members I interacted with were friendly and made me feel welcome.
-In the evenings, the hotel dims the lobby and hallway lights, creating a calming and cozy environment—an unexpectedly nice touch.
-The hotel is within walking distance of a train station, making it easy to navigate the city without relying solely on cabs or rideshare services.
-I appreciated the wooden, plantable room key cards, which showed a thoughtful commitment to sustainability. In the rooms, you have to insert the key card into a slot to enable the electricity, which is great for reducing energy waste (though easy to forget!).
-Although the “standard” bed was actually two twin beds pushed together, they did a good job of making it feel like one seamless bed. Each of us had our own twin-sized comforter, which was actually pretty nice.
Cons:
-There was a noticeable scent throughout the hotel that I didn’t care for. It wasn’t necessarily bad, but I disliked it so it bothered me throughout my stay. This is likely a matter of personal preference, as my husband didn’t notice it as much.
-The tap water had a distinctive taste and smell that I didn’t like. I could even taste it in some of the food, like pasta, which was likely cooked in the tap water. Interestingly, I didn’t notice this in other parts of Prague, only at the hotel. My husband didn't notice this either, so it was also likely a matter of personal preference. Unfortunately for me, there was very little access to bottled water so I didn't really have an alternative.
-Limited Access to Food & Inaccurate Menu Hours: While the breakfast buffet was impressive (you can even squeeze your own orange juice), the hotel’s food options after breakfast were unreliable. The bistro didn’t offer what was listed on its menu, and both the kitchen and room service closed significantly earlier than advertised. This was a significant inconvenience, as there are no alternatives nearby- you are just out of luck.
-The option to stream content from your device to the TV didn’t work. If you don’t speak Czech, this means there’s little to watch on TV.
-The air conditioning in the room struggled to cool the space, and the single ice machine on the 5th floor was out of order during my stay.
-We had several drivers who seemed confused by the hotel’s entrance toll gate, causing some delays in pickups.
-Although I had the “Do Not Disturb” sign up, my room was cleaned one day anyway. I’m not sure if this was a misunderstanding or if the sign fell off, but it’s worth noting.
If you're seeking a clean, eco-friendly hotel with a friendly staff and a calming ambiance, this place could be a good fit. However, the issues with food availability, scent sensitivity, access to bottled water, and television streaming options are worth considering for travelers looking for reliability in...
Read moreThe Best Holiday Inn I have stayed at in Last 15 years. IHG management should look at this hotel and staff to find out what they should be doing at Holiday Inns around the world.....
Spent 7 nights at this Hotel and tried all facilities. Note - the only issue with a good vs excellent was the following Room - smaller, but then so are all European hotel rooms. I had a king bed which was 2 twins pushed together. Nothing wrong except that the bed covers were also twin. The AC did not work the first night, but after first morning went down and asked for replacement and ac repair, both which were taken care of in less than 20 minutes (outstanding staff). Excellent (and above): Internet - 75M up and down load - fastest I have ever had. Location - convenient to get down to Prague and public transport.
Food - yes the food (see pictures and comments)
Staff - very well trained and responsive
Recognition as IHG Platinum (now Elite) - Special facilities for Priority members that should be emulated around all IHG.
Food - We all know how in the US, the HI menu is copied, food is the same, and I never eat there unless arriving late or nothing else is around. Arrived late here and went to get something to eat and was stunned. This hotel worked hard to give a great experience and it showed. The menu selections was like nothing I have seen at a holiday inn (see example in pictures), but more importantly - I had 3 meals at this HI and had dinner and lunches throughout some of the recommended restaurants in Prague. This HI and Chef blew away all restaurants in Prague and in-fact - was probably some of the best food and service I have had including putting in top end restaurants from the US. The closest meal I have had to compare was the Intercontinental in Miami and while this food also was outstanding, you did have to pay heavily for that experience.
Recognition - At check in - the old and common 500 points or little bag was asked, making me think - same as all. However, this HI had special rooms set aside just for priority members. These rooms were stocked with soda, juice, water and food 24 hours a day as well as outstanding business facilities including printers also located in these two rooms. This was great.
Staff - well trained and responsive. Not the typical response of Sorry I had gotten at most European locations I had stayed at (also was in London and Paris locations), but fixed issues, answered questions and provided local guidance that was spot on. Have a fixed rate taxi service that provided airport transfer and at a cost of 35% less that I had received on getting my own service from the airport (about 30 km away).
If going back to Prague - this is where I would stay - Period.. I commend the management at this hotel as they probably do not realize just how good...
Read moreMy wife and I came back to this excellent hotel having enjoyed our time there earlier in the year. This time for six nights. We love Prague and know that we will get a very warm welcome at Holiday Inn Congress Centre. As Spire Elite members we were once again rewarded with an upgraded room with other extras. We had a excellent welcome form the Front Desk staff and Rooms Division Manager who we have found are always ready to make your stay enjoyable, providing maps, organising tickets, suggesting opportunities and even selling you tickets for the transport. Breakfast is a large buffet style with far more choice than most UK Holiday Inns. At busy times, some of the dishes run out but are replenished fairly quickly or if requested. One example was when mushrooms were finished. I asked a member of staff who said they would be more but maybe a few minutes as all dishes are cooked freshly. Indeed 6 minutes later there was a whole container of freshly cooked mushrooms. You do need to be prepared to wait a few minutes and enter in to the Czech culture and if you are prepared to do this, you will relax and enjoy.
The transport system is excellent and very reasonably priced. For a 24 hour ticket for all transport it is 110 Czk (just over £4.00). This includes the metro, bus, tram and the vernacular railway up to the tower on the hill (known as the Eiffel Tower of Prague) A must to visit along with the Castle. Ticket normally available at the hotel or the local metro station. The hotel is on the main Red metro route which goes into town and connects with the other routes and trams.
The hotel booked a 4 hour evening cruise on the river. Picked up and dropped off at the hotel, an hour city tour and then 3 hours on the boat with a buffet dinner with as much as you could eat.
The hotel is situated in a quiet area close to the famous Vysehrad district which forms part of the Fortified walled area with lovely views and an opportunity to have a guided walk through the tunnels of the walled fortification and where many of the original statues can be seen that once stood on the Charles Bridge. Most visitors travel by metro from the centre to visit this area which is on the Hotels doorstep.
If music is part of your life, then Prague at any time is where to come. Concerts of all types go on every evening in the churches and other buildings in the city. We enjoyed an excellent string/solo and organ concert in on the the St Clement's Cathedral one evening.
There is so more to say but you need to see for yourself....
