We went to Dolores with two tipster coupons for the 8 course dinner menu. Overall, it was a nice evening, but the food experience itself was somewhat underwhelming. There was definitely some good dishes, like the eggplant with black garlic and harissa and the saffron arancini, but the rest was quite under seasoned, under salted or simple to the point that i could easily have made it myself at home (like the tomato salad, flat bread and potatoes). Oddly enough, the fries however were so salty we had to scrape off clumped up salt from them.

I noticed that a lot of the dishes they highlight on their front page of their website, were not included in the set menu, so if I were to come back, I would definitely try a la carte, as maybe thats where the good stuff is hiding!

While the staff was nice and we were welcomed kindly, we did stoop over one particular oddity. When ordering our wine, we were not offered to taste it first, which is something we personally have never experienced in a sit down restaurant of this price point. Instead, we were poured a (generous, I will say) glass right away. I didn’t like my wine very much - and fair enough, that’s on me - but usually this is something that restaurants would prefer avoiding by simply offering a quick taste first.

The decorating and ambiance of the place is nice and charming, and I did notice that a lot of guests seemed to know someone working in the restaurant, which did add a nice atmosphere. If I were the kind of person to love having lots of conversation with the staff, though, I might have felt a bit overlooked, since the attention was mainly on the guests that the staff knew. Personally, I didn’t mind.

Our biggest caveat however is, that for a place that is focused on ‘mission district’ food, we expected to see Mexican inspired dishes as Mission District is particularly home to a huge Mexican-American community. This wasn’t the case. Seems like Dolores is still trying to settle in, and unfortunately, that resulted in a pretty ambiguous experience.

I wouldn’t flat out tell people to steer clear of this place, as I’m sure many others would enjoy it a lot. The menu was well priced with the tipster coupon, but I wouldn’t get it again for the full price.

Unfortunately, this place just didn’t live up to our...

Three friends and I visited DOLORES for lunch. We had the Around the World menu and were personally attended by Oliver, Chef of the place and a person who radiates passion for their craft.

We had an amazing time at the restaurant. Service was top notch, as was the very curated ‘hygge’ environment you would otherwise find in the Danish-French blend cuisines around the city. However, the menu was unlike any other, with its own mix of different cuisines in a tapas-style sharing serving.

Our favorite dish was the dessert, a modern take on the all-time Danish favorite, “strawberries and cream”, using a Pavlova as the driving element on the plate. The starters were also amazing, particularly the Gazpacho (we are Spanish and have never had such an accurate Gazpacho outside of Spain before) and the Arancini, that was packed with a delicate taste of saffron. The main curses were our least favorite, although it was interesting and brave to defy expectations by opting into a meat and fish free main curse by-default.

The chef also had food allergies into consideration.

Overall, a...

Portion sizes were larger than expected, however, everything was very salty with the exception of the bread which was very bland. Raw oyster - well cleaned, no sand. My counterpart reported that it was the best part of the meal. He was impressed with how well it had been cleaned. Fries- good texture but were SO salty, I was literally tapping the fries on the plate to try to get the salt off. The cheese dip that came with it was okay—- but again very salty. My friend did not like it. The cauliflower had excellent texture and were cooked perfectly but very VERY bland. Mushrooms are my favorite food and the shiitake mushrooms were so salty I could not finish them. My friend got the Korean fried chicken and reports that the sauce was very salty as well. Overall the atmosphere was very nice. Waiters were very friendly but basically brought food and never came back again (we would have liked to get another drink). The menu has some great concepts but the food left me disappointed and...

We got their “around the world” menu that is slightly confusing because of the mixed dishes but they were so tasty overall anyway. We got wontons, arancini, flat bread, straciatella with tomatoes, ricotta gnocchi and my fave of all : Korean fried “chicken” with lions mane mushroom 👌💯🤯🤯 . As a non-poultry eater (because we have pet birds), we have to ask for alternatives everytime we dine out, but this lions mane mushroom is the 💯💯👏👏😭 Anyway, good meal and affordable too, so can recommend this place
