Shibuya Ichiban — Restaurant in Santo Domingo

I visited Shibuya Ichiban at Blue Mall and found myself amidst an upscale atmosphere surrounded by high-end stores. The food was good, though a bit overpriced for what you get. My initial visit was marred by a lack of service, perhaps influenced by our nationality – my Dominican girlfriend, who is multilingual, and does not look her ethnicity was seemingly ignored. Thankfully, a very kind manager named Angel stepped in, addressing us in both English and Spanish. In order to make amends, he reserved a table for us on a scheduled return visit and crafted a delightful custom meal for us. The second experience was far more enjoyable, especially the exceptional dish prepared just for us. I would have rated 1-star if it wasn't for Angel, he truly was what his name says. Furniture, I'd recommend the sister restaurant named SBG across the way which he also manages. Service was much better there, thanks to a wonderful waiter...

Excellent restaurant, real super food. All restaurants adapt their plates to the local taste. But this one is terrific. People tend to comment, "not really authentic Japanese". But then again would that fill the place? I don't think so. For that go to Japan. My wife and me ordered 5 different plates, not all together, but one after the other. We choose from the Rollo crocante (sushi roll), lightly fried, filled with a.o. shrimps Batayaki, crab, avocado. Delicious. Gyosa Porkbelly, Sushimubanzu-shrimps tempura agridulce. The pescado blanco oruyaki and Gyosa de pato, duck, confitado. One of the best dining experiences we have had in Sto. Dom. As we only drink soda water, the bill came to only a little over $ 100.00. Food was amazing, the atmosphere was great. It's a really nice mall. But whatever you do, do not order a dirty martini. They will definitely make it wrong. You do not put a lime shot inside that drink. Get a more knowledgeable bartender so that you don't wast good money on horrible tasting drinks. Also why do you have to make me mix my own drinks? Why? This is just plain laziness from a bartender. I ordered a vodka tonic with lime. Instead I got a mini snifter with a shot of vodka, a tall glass of tonic water, and a shot of lime juice. And a glass with ice. No world in the world have I ever got a deconstructed alcoholic beverage. Ever. I don't know why they will make you a martini but deconstruct a simple vodka tonic.
