Doskoi Kraków - Japanese Food — Restaurant in Krakow

I went there with a friend an hour ago and it was amazing, the waiter was very polite, friendly and caring, he even gave us recommendations and advised us when we had questions. My friend and I were about to order 2 desserts at the end but the waiter said a plate was quite big and advised us to just take one and share, I was really impressed because most restaurants would just not tell you anything to make you buy two.

I saw a lot of people in the reviews complaining about the staff not being able to speak Polish very well but polish is a very had language and (imagine yourself holding a Polish restaurant in Japan) their english was very good too and I didn't have trouble understanding or being understood even though English isn't my native language.

Another thing I saw in the reviews is people complaining about the price (40zł max for a main meal which is fairly low according to me especially if we compare with how good the food is) but you can't just walk in a good restaurant and expect to not have to pay much

We both had a great time and experience there and I regret not taking any photos, I think this restaurant is a must as the inside is very beautiful, the service is perfect and you don't have to wait much, the food was delicious. My friend is from India and said that the curry was one of the best he had even eaten, the rice was definitely the best I've eaten in Poland so far and the chicken was incredible. The onigiri is really good and is very cheap knowing how much it can cost in other Japanese restaurants in Poland.

We're definitely going there again and if this isn't the best restaurant in Kraków I really wonder...

Customer service: First off - bad customer service. The girl was clearly very stressed and we (2 people) had trouble with getting seated. Once we got seated it was at the bar which is very high and not suitable for shorter people. The “table” was more or less at the same level as my chin.

Tea: We had ordered houjicha tea which came in a kyusu with a steel strainer that felt very inauthentic and cheap, yet the tea itself was good. One pot was ca. 3 teacups.

Food: The choice for vegans is quite small, so if you’re not a curry or spice fan then you’ll probably have to omit the main dishes. The “Vegan Don” had some tofu in a soggy tasteless batter and tasted like very generic overcooked sweet rice with some veggies. Also none of the mains are based on fish which was quite disappointing for a japanese restaurant.

We’ve ordered sides of edamame (it was my first time having cooked warm edamame, surprising but good) and natto which was weirdly plated but not overmixed and quite good. The miso soup was okay as a small side dish, or just to sip on. Btw it’s not vegetarian.

I also ordered a spinach & garlic onigiri. It was tiny, wrapped in very soggy and gummy nori and tasted of basically nothing. I felt the garlic perhaps in one single bite.

Overall - it’s a pretty overhyped place in my opinion, and sadly, our expectations might have been too high. The prices are alright, we paid 95 zl for two people, a good deal when eating out in the city center.

Saw good reviews of this place so wanted to try it. Interior is fairly authentically decorated and they played japanese music. They also have a small grocery section by the front door if you want to buy some stuff to take home.

It was a nice day so we wanted to sit on their patio. Unfortunately we were told that it was closed since it rained earlier and the furniture was wet but that wasn’t true. It had rained but it was early in the morning and the furniture was dry already.

Service was okay. Not rude but not friendly. We got acknowledged fairly quick and they cleaned a table for us inside right away. Inside was hot and muggy so not the most comfortable.

I ordered the Teriyaki Don and my friend ordered the Katsu curry. Rice was authentic japanese rice. Portion was also generous. We also ordered the Tomato Soup since it sounded interesting. Turned out pretty tasty. My Don had a lot of chicken. Flavour wise was not bad. The chicken in my Don was breaded and fried which didn’t seem necessary cuz the breading was soggy. Seems like they tossed the chicken in Teriyaki Sauce after frying it hence the sogginess. They should just drizzle the teriyaki sauce on top rather than tossing it. An easier alternative for them would be to just pan sear the chicken thigh, then drizzle the sauce on top. Saves them time and labour to bread and fry each...
