Józef Mehoffer House — Attraction in Krakow

Mehoffer's House on Krupnicza is quite a special place. First at all it is a place where Stanislaw Wyspiański was born. It could have been coincidence(or not) that much later on his friend Mehoffer(or shall we say ex-friend as they fell out)bought the house in quite derelict state and made it into a family home.The museum has kept original layouts,so it is like wandering around somebody's home and looking at the art on the walls and mantelpieces. It has got lots of beautiful surprises such as the Japanese room full of Hiroshige's work.The garden(open to public) is also very pleasant green oasis. Set in Mehoffera's town house I really enjoyed this visit. Furniture and paintings set out pretty much as they would have been when the family lived there. Was expecting something more akin to a museum but felt very natural. Helpful staff and information boards about the pictures and other artefacts. Visit took me an hour and a half.
