Mehoffer's House on Krupnicza is quite a special place. First at all it is a place where Stanislaw Wyspiański was born. It could have been coincidence(or not) that much later on his friend Mehoffer(or shall we say ex-friend as they fell out)bought the house in quite derelict state and made it into a family home.The museum has kept original layouts,so it is like wandering around somebody's home and looking at the art on the walls and mantelpieces. It has got lots of beautiful surprises such as the Japanese room full of Hiroshige's work.The garden(open to public) is also very pleasant green oasis. The small noticeboard next to its fence reminds about the neighbouring legendary townhouse number 22 called 'House of Writers'.

Zdecydowanie warte odwiedzenia miejsce. Józef Mehoffer mieszkał z rodziną w tej kamienicy, mającej faktycznie charakter miejskiego pałacyku, od 1932 r. i we wnętrzach odtworzono w większości wystrój z tamtych lat. Szczęśliwie zachowała się duża część wyposażenia. Absolutnie fenomenalne są zbiory prac Mehoffera: autoportrety, portrety żony artysty i przede wszystkim trzy fenomenalne witraże. Tego się nigdzie indziej nie zobaczy. Minusy: Po pierwsze - jeśli obsługa domaga się zdjęcia plecaków (właściwie nie wiadomo, dlaczego, bo pomieszczenia są obszerne, a obiektów, które można by zrzucić, właściwie brak), to w muzeum powinna być albo szatnia z obsługą, albo szafki depozytowe. A jest tylko szatnia samoobsługowa. Po drugie - brak katalogu zbiorów. Jak się dowiedziałem, ma być za kilka miesięcy. Po trzecie - problem wielu muzeów, ale szczególnie odczuwalny w takich kameralnych miejscach: zwiedzający naprawdę nie chcą w czasie zwiedzania słuchać prywatnych rozmów personelu i dowiadywać się w detalach o ich chorobach, szczepieniach czy trasie dojazdu do domu. Moja serdeczna prośba do państwa z obsługi: proszę być dyskretniejszym, dajcie państwo zwiedzać w skupieniu.

Odwiedziny tego muzeum to jak podróż w czasie, do Krakowa sprzed 100 lat. Bardzo piękne wnętrza, do tego sztuka prezentująca szeroki wachlarz artystycznej działalności Mehoffera: oprócz obrazów, są również rysunki węglem, szkice i zaprojektowane przez niego witraże. Na dziedzińcu znajduje się ogródek-kawiarnia (mamy nadzieje, ze w przyszłym roku przybędzie tam kwiatów), oraz warsztaty twórcze dla dzieci. Bardzo polecam tam zajrzeć. (we wtorki wstęp za darmo). jest klimatyzacja.

Set in Mehoffera's town house I really enjoyed this visit. Furniture and paintings set out pretty much as they would have been when the family lived there. Was expecting something more akin to a museum but felt very natural. Helpful staff and information boards about the pictures and other artefacts. Visit took me an hour and a half. One for the artist or historian rather than a casual visit but good non the less. Not a place kids can run about due to the openness of...
