Hostal Vista Amazonas — Hotel in Mariscal Sucre

I booked this hostel based on the reviews and was extremely disappointed when I arrived. I booked a double room and was given a large room with 5 single beds. When I questioned this with reception they said they were full and we could change the following day. Luckily I only booked 1 night and was happy to leave the following day. I did manage to get 10% discount because of the error but this was not exactly a cheap hostel. In fact this is nothing like a hostel at all. it's more of a 1 star (if any star) hotel. The breakfast was ok-ish, juice, coffee, scrambled eggs and a croissant although the description the hostel have on their ad makes you think you will have something better. In the morning I was in bed as I was feeling a bit tired from a late night out and the cleaner came into the room to clean it. I found this most annoying especially as we were due to check out at midday. If this is the case the maid should not enter the room until you have left. Given the price hthe hotel represented good value. Its location made it easy to access the tourist facilities in the Mariscal district while providing access to transport options to the rest of Quito. The room was comfortable (I did not need four beds for one person but whatever) with the shower particularly effective. The breakfast also represented good value with some variety. My one criticism is of the tv selection, which was poor. Uff, everywhere else I usually stay in Quito was booked, i found this place in the pouring rain and braced for the worse, it is on a very busy street! I usually travel with industrial strength ear plugs and resigned myself for a sleepless night in this place. Guess what, I slept fine!
