Overpriced, below-average Chinese food.
My partner and I wanted to have a Christmas-day, Chinese lunch. We had heard about Happy Panda, read good reviews, so we’re excited to try it. Honestly, it was terrible and we will not be returning.
Quality of food: we ordered - spring rolls, 2 buns, tofu sweet and sour soup, veggie rice noodles, and general tsao chicken, and a pitcher of tea. Everything was overly fried in oil, flavor was weak, and the quality was just subpar. No depth and not any better than your average chifa place. We both left the restaurant feeling sick to our stomachs.
Cost: our lunch cost $65 in total (including tip), which is VERY expensive for Quito standards. Then, considering the food was SO disappointing, the ridiculous price made us even more upset. The correlation between price and quality IS important because if you’re going to pay above average prices, but the food is good, it’s worth it. But to pay $15 for an entree in Quito that tastes no better than dorm-room Chinese food? Is a complete scam.
Ambience: the ambience is nice-ish. Definitely wants to give upscale vibes, but missed the mark with everything else that the nice table clothes couldn’t save it.
Personnel: our waiter was nice, friendly, and helpful. We left him a tip because he deserved it.
In conclusion, save yourself the hassle and if you want Chinese/Asian food in Quito, check out any of the other quality options (La Formosa, Rui,...
