We were searching for a high-quality dining experience in Quito and OSAKA caught our eye. As big fans of Japanese cuisine, we were excited by the menu's focus on small plates, a format we always enjoy. The restaurant itself is beautifully designed with an open kitchen and modern aesthetic.
Food: While OSAKA's pricing suggests a high-end culinary experience, the quality of the dishes was a bit inconsistent. The menu features a tempting selection of appetizers, sushi, and main courses. We opted for several small plates, including the nigiri with tuna and foie gras. We were initially drawn to this dish by stunning photos on Instagram, showcasing exquisite presentation and high-quality ingredients. However, upon arrival, the portion size was disappointingly small, and the tuna slice was extremely thin. The difference between the photo and reality was stark.
We also tried the crab tacos, which were more of a fusion interpretation, featuring rice and crab in a crispy shell. While tasty, the abundance of rice made the dish somewhat unbalanced. The rolls we chose, however, were excellent. The shrimp, crab, and crispy quinoa combination was expertly crafted, with perfectly cooked rice – not overly sticky but delicately firm. The fillings were generous and flavorful, without overpowering the rice. This, along with the scallop in creamy curry sauce, was a definite highlight of the evening.
Service: The service was commendable, with English-speaking staff who made us feel welcome and comfortable. The food arrived promptly, and the staff was consistently friendly and attentive.
Conclusion: OSAKA is a solid Japanese restaurant offering a stylish ambiance and some truly delicious dishes. The pricing is higher than average, though, and the overall quality of the food was somewhat uneven. However, considering the scarcity of high-end, European-style restaurants in Quito, especially those specializing in seafood, the challenges of sourcing ingredients in the mountains, and the generally excellent service, OSAKA is a worthwhile choice for a pleasant and...

Read moreAll the 5 stars for this place must be fake and I wish I listened to the bad reviews when I was researching this pathetic resturant as I feel like I've been extorted here. First like many other reviewers said is that the prices are extremely high but with that being said the food is a cheap imitations for example I ordered the salmon tartar for 14 bucks which was nothing but a sushi pizza you can get at most all you can eat sushi places I then Also ordered the duck leg which was 24$ came in a bowl of rice with a mango syrup which made the whole thing taste way too sweet . Barely any meat so I basically paid for 2$ worth of food that tasted like something out of a fast food Chinese restaurant. My total bill came up 60$ with some maki which was ok but in the end I had to go to KFC down the road to eat as 60$ bought me little amount of food with low quality not to mention the service was terrible I had to ask for the bill 4 times...
