A very unethical and classist place and staff. My and names of 3 of my friends were added to the list in advance and were confirmed and once we arrived, they only allowed me to get in and said that my three friends are not on the list. This is not my first time at Cairo Jazz and I’m usually on a guest list.
I tried to negotiate the time we spend inside because we came to watch the first DJ thinking it was crowded, which was not, and showed proof that the names were confirmed and no one helped. The place was empty and there was no line and we offered to just stay in for 1-2 hrs to watch the DJ we came for. But I was faced with so much resistance and unwelcoming vibes, which is very disappointing for a place that attract some of the best DJs in Cairo.
Eventually, the guy i was speaking to, named Karim, who said he manages the place said that they have a special criteria to approve people, aka the way you look, dress and even speak will be the defining criteria — and if you have tried to attend an event, you already know they ask for your social media, which again, is super unethical and an invasive of privacy. I am aware that my comment won’t affect the popularity of the place but if you’re reading this comment, I hope you are aware of the energy you’re getting yourself in. I am never stepping a foot...
Read moreThe place is not worth the try!!
You need to have a woman with you as part of their backward "mixed couples policy", Which in fact is very degrading to WOMEN to say the least ,where you as a woman will be used as an accessory for men to enter.
If you are a woman reading this review, please know that male tourists who like live music are being told to drag a woman with them so they can let men into their SAFE SPACE!!
I was reading a 1 star review here of a woman who brought 3 "friends" with her, she booked and they confirmed then when she got there they told her we can let you in (the woman) but the other names are not on the list 😅 I bet they were 3 men.
Another thing why do you need to see how many followers I have and check my photos online to know that I'm Jazz Club worthy 🤣?
When you call, they tell you to book through Facebook, and not through instagram or whatsapp, for example, because they can access your photos and do a class-based vetting before you come to their place. (What they name: invites only, exclusive crowd etc..)
I think they should count how many people see these reviews on Google instead of checking out photos on Facebook, they would have a rating...
