Five Bells Restaurant — Restaurant in Geziret al Zamalik, Jazirat al Zamalik

We were heading to the place for a special occasion and I know there's a piano, so, you can hear live music played in the air. I found they are playing a football match on screens with a very loud voice and people were cheering as if I was sitting in a coffee shop in Mohandessin area or something even less. We ordered two plates, proportions are very small you are not close to being fulfilled, presented in horrible way the sauce is ALL OVER THE PLATE. It's like a soup spilled on the plate. When we tried to know what is special from the waiter he seemed ignorant not only in regard to the specials they have, he seemed ignorant like what the hell is this question, what do we mean!! The only thing that was good this night, an Egyptian dessert named Om Ali, though I felt it needed a little bit more sugar, but, considering all of the above...

This place has good reviews and that inspired me to go there. It is a charming restaurant with a nicely classy feel about it without being overly formal. The atmosphere was relaxed and informal, they played relaxing music which at times was accompanied by a flautist and the service was very good. The food was very good, as was the accompanying wine and beer. For couples this could be a nice, romantic night out. For families, or a group of friends this would also be a delightful venue for a meal in a nice setting with a 'piano bar' style ambience, calm, charming and comfortable. I'm not sure if this restaurant is familiar with foreigners. We came in around 7 pm. We seated ourselves. The restaurant was not that busy on a Sunday night; the first workday of the week in Egypt, maybe 4-5 tables and 20 people. The restaurant is large, with an "outdoorsy" seating. The smell of cigarette smoke is very strong. There were plenty of servers on staff; we counted 3-4. We got our menus maybe 5 minutes after seating. After 15 minutes of waiting, we flagged a server to help us. Upon hearing English from us, he acted bewilded and left. No one for another 10 minutes came to take our order.
