Maharaja El-Zamalek — Restaurant in Geziret al Zamalik, Jazirat al Zamalik

So...had high hopes of this place, but obviously didn't read the reviews properly and took an overall approach in terms of rating.

Dined here tonight 2nd June 2022. Google says closes at midnight. We walked in at 10.05pm and within a minute of taking a seat an abrupt (young) waiter stands over the table with an order pad and says kitchen is about to close and they are cleaning. Anyway feeling very rushed we ordered within a couple of minutes. He took our menus and slammed them on top of the pile.

Here's the twist... new customers walk in at 10.45pm and then again at 11.20pm! So I asked the young abrupt rude waiter "I thought you were closing", to which he replied with nothing. Pathetic really and inexcusable. That waiter ought to be sacked to be honest, no idea of customer service, or some harsh re-training required at the very least.

I suspect this restaurant is owned by Egyptians and have (at least) one Indian staff member in the kitchen whom we met. The food taste was poor to average if I was being honest. The service was fast, way too fast, which unfortunately means the sauces were prepared before hand and heated up. I mean we were served within about 5-10 minutes of ordering and we ordered a fair amount. The sauces in the mains pretty much tasted the same. I hate using the term, but bit like out of a jar.

Assuming it was the owner who was sat downstairs and taking the money, he didn't seem to care about who's going in or out of his restaurant. No thank you or appreciation. Seems like he couldn't care less. Shame.

For UK or Western visitors who are used to high standards of food and service - be advised, this place is Indian mainly by appearance and somewhat by the food, but hospitality is definitely not Indian. Harsh, rough, abrasive. Brace yourself or better still - roll the dice and try your luck elsewhere perhaps!

In addition the beggars outside who at one point entered the restaurant didn't bother the owner one bit. And oh... the tables are at an awkward height - they almost...

The only thing and most important that is very good in this place is food taste, other than that needs attention and improvement. The food portion is little compared to its price, especially nan bread. It's really tooooo small, so we had to order one more to satisfy our tummy We ordered Pepsi drinks with our food, but we didn't get them until we asked for them again and again. That was frustrating The dining area was rather hot, so we had to change our place near to Aircondition outlets to get some cool air There were some Flys in the room. That wasn't acceptable at all WCs were not clean at all, actually disgusting We asked for the bill, and the waiter told us to go downstairs directly to the cashier to pay our bill, and at the cashier, the lady told us our bill total without showing us the receipt, so we asked for it before paying and here was the trick, two coconut ice-cream were added to the bill that we didn't ordered. At this point, my blood pressure rose dramatically. Don't tell me that was a mistake. No, it was clear that was meant on purpose, so...

Have been to this hotel after stuck in a long traffic jam as the restaurant is located in a small tiny street. After reaching to the place we got to sit in the first floor in comfortable seating.

Now the fun starts..... The waiters get us food ordered by our travel guide and place them on the table and the waiters leave the scene for us to finish it. Now as you know like any other human being, we might require some stuff in between the meal like water, yogurts and or extra food..... There were no one to look towards or to call for. If we order for an extra cup of yogurt, everyone knows that it is chargeable and as an additional price to it. You dont have to call out the price as if we cant afford 1 cup of yogurt when we can afford the entire meal in the restaurant, that too in a rude way.

This was just one of the things. There were many such things which happened to us here. Especially the waiter named ahmed... He was rude in a slightly racial way.... Which ticked me off to write this review.
