The food is good. I think foreigners from countries with strong economies should pay more than Egyptians, but there’s a limit to what’s reasonable. Egyptians who want to take foreign friends out to eat shouldn’t be punished by restaurants. Gambareca has increased their foreign prices far beyond reason: triple Egyptian prices for food that is already expensive for Aswan. (This makes Gambareca much more expensive than tourist-oriented restaurants on the Corniche and Elephantine Island.) Our party of four had one foreigner, three Aswan-born Egyptians, but our waiter wanted to charge all four of us foreign prices. We protested that there was no good reason to charge Egyptians at the foreign rate. After our meal, he brought us a bill in which the foreigner’s dish was calculated at 200 EGP more than the price listed in the English menu—already triple the Egyptian price. I went with Egyptian friends, and we were all shocked to see the huge difference in prices between the menu I got and the ones they were given. The waiter even tried to charge them all the foreigner price, because they were with one foreigner! There was no silverware provided, just a plastic spoon and fork. The food was somewhat below average in quality. To top it all off, the waiter rang up my meal at an even higher price and also inflated the tip which we had told him he could add to the charge.
I doubt that any of us will ever go back...

Luckily, there was an Arabic menu on the next table, and when I tried to cross check the prices with the arabic menu card, I noticed that the price was thrice as expensive as compared to the arabic one. We tried to tell the restaurant staff that the prices in the English and Arabic menu dont match. But they tried to explain to us that the prices are the same. They dint even bother stopping us when we walked out of the restaurant without ordering. If you are a foreign tourist, please be very careful before ordering. Otherwise you may be...
