Last year (august 2022), my boyfriend and I spent two nights / three days in a private felucca with Abou, Farik and his nephew. It was the best part of our journey in Egypt. Starting from Aswan, the felucca went slowly down the Nile. Farik was the best sailor. He knew Nile as his pocket. I loved how they manipulated the —— (mac) together to go under the bridges. This traditional boat is amazing. Abou was the best egyptian cooker, we would cook us traditional food, just like home. All the meals were cooked within the boat and everything was delicious (we loved his « fried » mussaka). They were so friendly (speaking good english) and they gave us our space as well. We spend our time contemplating the Nile’s shore, drawing, reading and eating good food. The Nubian music they put was amazing (so sorry shazam couldn’t recognize it). They proposed us to put our music, but their choice was definitely perfect for the authentic trip. The mint tea was always present and we enjoyed it in the afternoon. The hygene was perfect. Farik was obsessed with cleaning up and every part of the felucca was always shiny clean. The toilet was alwaaays clean too. Three days were not enough !! As soon as we were on the felucca, we knew we needed more time there. The crew understood quickly what we liked and they adapted our trip as we wanted (we did the stops we wanted and not the one proposed ; we did’t want the market day, so we skipped it). We definitely will come back to Egypt to do some felucca with the JJ Jamaica. It took us a year to write the review. we are still very thrilled and overwhelmed about that...
Read moreWe had the most amazing 3-night, 4-day trip up the Nile on a felucca with Waleed as our captain and Ahmad as our cook. It was such a chilled-out experience, made even better by sharing the boat with a lovely couple from the Netherlands.
The food? Absolutely incredible. Ahmad somehow whipped up a huge variety of delicious dishes in the tiniest cooking space it was honestly mind-blowing. We spent our days reading, eating, chatting, and even learning some Arabic. By the end, the four of us were wishing we could keep sailing all the way to Esna and Edfu.
The only slight downside was the mosquitoes on the last night, they got us good! Turns out they have mosquito nets available, so definitely ask for them ahead of time or bring your own to cover your face while sleeping. Otherwise, we were super cozy, even in winter, with plenty of blankets and endless hot drinks thanks to Ahmad.
This trip was hands down the highlight of our time in Egypt. Waleed and Ahmad made it unforgettable, and we can’t thank them enough. If you’re considering a felucca ride, do it with these two, you won’t regret...
Read moreIf you’re thinking about sailing down the Nile, don’t have any doubts - it’s a decision you’ll never regret. We were skeptical and nervous booking a felucca trip directly with JJ after finding his contact details online and questioning whether the trip would be worth it. We actual spoke to a couple of felucca captains, but from the word go JJ was upfront and detailed in what the trip would entail. JJ was true to his word in delivering what we had agreed for the trip and there were no added extras. JJ had not over-estimated how lovely the felucca boat was - a lower deck of clean comfortable mattresses, a nice bathroom and an upper deck to watch the beautiful sunsets. Our captain Tarek and Abdu provided the best service, company and the most delicious food you could wish for. This really created life long memories that will be cherished, and I can’t paint a more beautiful picture than what we experienced on...
