I decided to give Movenpick Aswan a 3-star rating as my stay had both great and disappointing aspects. Given the price of $240 per night, which is close to the rates of higher-end hotels in Cairo like the Four Seasons (around $260), I feel my opinion matters, and I want to provide a balanced review.
Good things: Special thanks to Esraa, who not only took over another agent’s silent check-in but also went above and beyond to explain everything about the property and answer all my questions. Her professionalism truly made me feel welcome, and she is a fantastic representative of the hotel. Mezze Restaurant: The best meal I had in Aswan was at Mezze Restaurant, where I tried a variety of traditional Egyptian dishes. The food was excellent, and the restaurant also offers an amazing view. A special thank you to Sana, the hostess, who made me feel incredibly warm and welcomed. Elephantine Restaurant: The breakfast here is good, especially with the early start at 3 AM. This is great for tourists needing to leave early for flights or tours, such as to Abu Simbel. Yasser, the waiter, was very attentive and genuinely made sure everything was to my liking. I loved the food! Room View: The view from my room was spectacular, and I didn’t want to leave the hotel because I felt so relaxed sitting on the balcony, enjoying the scenery.
Negative things: In-Room Dining: The in-room dining staff was rude and struggled with basic English. When I inquired about portion sizes, the order-taker did not understand, and when I tried to clarify, he raised his voice, making the situation uncomfortable. When I asked why he was shouting, he responded that he didn’t understand me. This was an unpleasant experience. Hotel Retail: The person working at souvenir shop in the hotel was also rude. I tried to buy postcards and asked how I could send them to my country. He initially said I could give them to him after writing, but I saw on the TV in the room that I can send any postcards from concierge. When I took them to the concierge, I was directed back to him for stamps. He was angry that I didn’t trust him and treated me poorly. When I gave him the postcards, he demanded an additional 400 EGP for sending, making the total cost 600 EGP ($12), which is the most I’ve ever paid to send postcards anywhere. I’m still unsure whether he actually sent them. Boat to/from the Hotel: The security at the port didn’t speak any English, and without a local SIM card to call the hotel, it was nearly impossible to figure out how to reach the other side, as there are many boats at the port. I ended up taking a boat that was likely for the staff, but I somehow made it across. It’s frustrating in a country like Egypt, where you can’t always tell if you’re expected to tip, especially when you’re confused about what’s going on. There were no markings or information on the boat indicating it was affiliated with Movenpick.
Overall, Movenpick Aswan has some incredible aspects, but it also has areas that need improvement, particularly when it comes to service. With a price tag of $240 per night, I had higher expectations for the overall experience. While I enjoyed the food, views, and some of the staff, the negative experiences significantly...
Read moreWe recently stayed at Movenpick Aswan Hotel and had an incredibly disappointing experience that we feel compelled to share. We had booked two rooms, and unfortunately, the issues started right from the first night. • Insect Infestation: After checking in late around 11:30 PM, I took a shower and was shocked to find 9-10 flies/mosquitoes/insects flying above my bed. It was disgusting and completely unacceptable. I called the front desk, and while someone came to spray the room, the pungent smell was so strong I couldn’t fall asleep until 1:30 AM. This was particularly frustrating because I had an early morning flight to Abu Simbel. • Poor Room Conditions: The hot water in the sink was yellow, making it clear that maintenance and cleaning were neglected. It felt as if the room hadn’t been cleaned or used for a long time. • Unsafe Bathroom Hazard: On our last day, around 5 AM, my mother-in-law slipped and fell in the bathroom due to water leaking from the air conditioner on the ceiling. This was not only inconvenient but dangerous and could have caused a serious injury. • Misleading Room View (Despite “Upgrade”): During check-in, the staff claimed they had upgraded us to a superior room, but this didn’t feel like an upgrade at all. The room view was primarily of the pool, and you could only see a small part of the Nile River if you stepped onto the balcony and looked from certain angles. This felt misleading and was not what we expected when booking a “Nile River view” room. • Breakfast Service Issues: Since we had an early flight, we requested takeaway breakfast during check-in. Surprisingly, the staff said they don’t provide boxes or bags, and we could only take food if we brought our own. However, the next morning, a kind waiter agreed to pack a breakfast for us but asked us not to tell the manager. This inconsistency and lack of professionalism were baffling. • Customer Relations Ignored Us: After reporting all these issues to the customer relations staff, we were told they would speak with their manager and get back to us. However, no one followed up—not even after we checked out. This complete lack of communication showed how little regard the hotel has for addressing guest concerns. • Service and Tipping Culture: The staff’s attitude completely depended on tips. Without tipping, they wouldn’t even smile, but after giving a tip, their behavior changed noticeably. Tipping should be a gesture of appreciation for good service, not a requirement to receive basic courtesy. This reflects a serious lack of proper staff training.
Overall, this hotel failed in terms of cleanliness, safety, professionalism, and honesty. From neglected rooms and misleading room views to poor service and a lack of follow-up, the experience was unacceptable. For the price and reputation, we expected so much more. We do not recommend this hotel to anyone until significant...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of staying at the Movenpick Aswan hotel and I must say, it was a truly wonderful experience. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with warm smiles and excellent service from the hotel staff.
The hotel itself is stunning, with its modern design and luxurious amenities. The rooms are spacious, comfortable, and beautifully decorated. The bed was incredibly comfortable, ensuring a restful night's sleep after a long day of exploring.
One of the highlights of my stay was the breathtaking view of the Nile River from my room. It was truly mesmerizing to wake up to such a picturesque scene every morning. The hotel's location right on the banks of the Nile also made it convenient for taking boat trips or simply enjoying a leisurely stroll along the river.
The breakfast buffet offered a wide variety of delicious dishes to suit all tastes, and the staff were always attentive and friendly.
The hotel facilities were top-notch as well. The swimming pool area was clean and inviting, perfect for relaxing under the sun. There is also a spa where guests can indulge in various treatments and massages to unwind after a long day.
Overall, my stay at Movenpick Aswan exceeded all expectations. The combination of excellent service, stunning views, comfortable rooms, and delicious food made for an unforgettable experience. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Aswan.
