Red Dragon, a Chinese restaurant in Addis Ababa, has garnered mixed reviews on Google. However, I believe this restaurant is simply misunderstood.
Firstly, hotpot is one of my favorite meals, and I want to take a moment to explain why it deserves more appreciation. Hotpot is a traditional Chinese cooking method where a pot of simmering broth is placed at the center of the dining table. Diners then cook their own ingredients directly in the broth. These ingredients can include thinly sliced meats, seafood, vegetables, tofu, noodles, and dumplings. After cooking, each piece is dipped into various sauces before eating.
The broth itself can vary widely in flavor, from mild to spicy, and it often becomes more flavorful as more ingredients are added and cooked. Hotpot is more than just a meal; it’s a communal and social dining experience, cherished in many East Asian cultures.
Red Dragon excels in providing this unique dining experience. The ingredients are fresh, and the broths are rich and varied. For those new to hotpot, the process might seem daunting, but it’s worth embracing for the authentic taste and the fun, interactive experience it offers.
Despite the negative reviews, I encourage you to give Red Dragon a try. Approach it with an open mind and a willingness to engage in the cooking process. You might find yourself enjoying one of the most delightful and interactive meals you’ve ever had.

Read moreFood tasted nice but they need all menu items in English as well as Chinese. Need English speaking staff or manager. It was very difficult to determine what was what on the menu. Hot pot was delicious but luckily we already knew what we were doing from having it lots before. Some items very expensive. Owner smoking in the restaurant which was even more disturbing as we had our baby with us.
Save your time and money and go to another Chinese place in Addis. All others I’ve been to have been so much better than this.

Read moreI gave one star to this place as it is impossible not to do so. It doesn’t even deserve that. The customer service is terrible. The staff has no discipline, no training. They chat, scream freely. They have no knowledge of the food that is served. The menu is presented using a tablet but half of it is written in Chinese. Chef smokes in the kitchen while cooking and does so in the dining hall. We had to remind him of the regulations. They ruined a special occasion. I do not...
