Shaheen Indian Restaurant, Sheraton Addis — Restaurant in Addis Ababa

We have dined at Shaheen, Sheraton Hotel, Addis Ababa a number of times before and enjoyed it so much we took friends and family there.

Unfortunately for reasons we cannot understand, the service was terrible on Thursday the 3rd of August 23 evening.

The Restaurant was half empty and no excuse there.

We had to keep asking the waiting staff to take our order, bring us drinks and as the white wine we ordered was room temperature and not chilled at all, we had to insist that more ice is added to the ice bucket. We eventually got fed up of waiting and decided to pour our own drinks in the end.

We wouldn’t mind it was your average Restaurant that didn’t charge a lot but it was unacceptable service level for the supported standard restaurant.

Our comment on the service to one of the waiters was surprisingly didn’t make a difference rather he looked very bemused!

Well - we paid and left without leaving a tip (which hardly happen with us) as we believe in supporting and compensating good service.

With the many brilliant new restaurants opening up in Addis, perhaps this will be our last trip to Shaheen.

It is a shame as the food is brilliant and the chef does a great job with the limited access to...

Shaheen restaurant is the absolute best. My experience starts with my little family celebrating dinner for my son joining University and my reservation which was properly booked. The food was mouthwatering and the ambience and comfort of the place ideal. The restaurant has a home feel and the subtle Indian music playing in thr background exotic and mystic. Staff are very cordial,accommodating and friendly. They really make you feel relaxed and at home. Finally the head chef even comes out and ask for your comment. This intimately small and dimly lit restaurant (my new standard for top-notch Indian eateries) is tucked away in the Addis Sheraton. Shaheen did justice to the basics: palak paneer, a prawn curry, tandoori chicken and that naan(!) We clearly ordered far more than our stomachs could consume, but regret none of it. Our waiter, Daniel, was a gentleman; he gave us solid menu recommendations and even had the chef come out to say hello after we had waived our white flag.
