No! There is nothing notable about this place or its food. The food is not traditional, not well made, and not appealing. None of the flavorings are fresh, contrasting nor bright.
Everything was BLAND. All the food lacked character and authenticity. Don’t be fooled by other reviews saying this place offers real Mexican food. Ha! What a blatant exaggeration. At best, this place is vaguely reminiscent of a L.A. chain called “Poquito Más” which offers far better food than this place.
Look, if you want to try real tortillas, real tacos, and real quesadillas hop on a flight to Guadalajara or Mexico City and experience fresh tortillas made with finely ground corn and light and fluffy flour tortillas that melt in your mouth. The tortillas here tasted like they came out of plastic bag from a mediocre factory.
One more thing, Mexican food does not need to be spicy to be real. Many restaurants add lots of spices to mask the inadequacies of their food, but this place did not even try that. There were no crisp spice flavorings coming from Serranos, Jalapeños or habaneros ~ or even fresh salt or cilantro.
You owe it to yourself to experience the real thing. Fly some hours and get good food...
Read moreHaving grown up in Los Angeles and spent the majority of my life on the west coast of the US, I've had a ton of exposure to incredible Mexican food. When I moved to Helsinki last year, the thing I missed the most was good Mexican food (and specifically a good burrito; maybe one day). I was skeptical when Tacoya first opened because it's been difficult to find authentic Mexican in Helsinki, but I'm happy to say that Tacoya is the real deal and worth your time.
The tacos were by far the most authentic and flavorful tacos I've had since I moved here. The taco choices are varied and delicious, and they have great salsas, great birria, and great drinks as well.
When we went they were offering free samples of a potential menu item that's another favorite of ours, tres leches, and unsurprisingly it was fantastic too.
The staff were very friendly and attentive, and I even had a chance to speak to the owner who was extremely nice and even put up with listening to me barrage him with hopes and dreams for future menu items which was very kind of him 😅
Excited to see this place evolve and hopefully you consider giving it a shot if...
Read moreI recommended Tacoya to my boyfriend based on an amazing experience I had there with a couple of friends. The food came quickly and the staff were lovely with a great sense of professionalism. However just recently when we visited, it took almost an hour to receive our food. There had been an error on the kitchen display system which meant that our order and a couple of other orders never made it to the kitchen. If I hadn’t gone and asked about the status of our food we would have ended up waiting even longer. The other customers which had the same issue ended up leaving and asking for their money back. Once the customers had left, their food orders had been made and sent to the wrong tables. It showed the lack of communication between the cashier and the kitchen. These are honest mistakes however the fact that none of the staff realised, made me unfortunately question the professionalism that was once shown. I sincerely wish that you go this through with the Tacoya employees and work on them. Hopefully I’ll visit with again, with a...
