Arguably the best hotel in Helsinki. It's newly refurbished and you can tell no expense spared during this process.
The LOCATION is the best in Helsinki city centre, just a stone's throw from the central railway station. It is easily walkable but still just far enough away that you never hear a train. The tram network is on the doorstep, as are restaurants, shops and bars.
The LOBBY has been tastefully decorated in a blend of modernist refinement / art nouveau / deco style - in keeping with all of the very best buildings in the city. Plenty of nice touch's like the chess board for guests to kill a little time and umbrellas by the door should the Finnish weather live up to it's fearsome reputation. On my visit it didn't, which was a bonus.
The BAR is superb, with a wide variety of products and is priced just how you might expect for Finland. It is no more expensive than the rest the country in this regard but for those of us from the UK, drinks prices are a little startling at first.
BREAKFAST was a real treat . Exceptionally high quality produce, with a local twist - fresh miniature Karelia pies (not to be missed) and everything else you could possibly want all served by a friendly and welcoming team, Nicole in particular was great and field our "touristy" questions. Service times were extremely generous, so no rush to make it and it never felt congested or rushed.
Our ROOM was spacious, well equipped and clean - a 5* product throughout. Water and complimentary handmade chocolate with a personalised hand written note, on arrival. Given our requirements changed on check-in - delivering this shows a high level of hospitality skill and attention to detail to achieve. They pulled it off well. The sci-fi automatic toilet was a little intimidating it had a remote control with more buttons than the space shuttle.
The SAUNA is world class, as you might expect from a great hotel in the country responsible for it's genesis. Three options, traditional, Infrared and steam. Luxury experience showers and heated stone loungers. Plentiful robes, towels and slippers were provided. The entire area was immaculate, tranquil and absolutely scorching (our Finnish host might of roasted the neophytes on purpose). The SPA was not yet open but i believe will be in the very near future.
In SUMMARY, a wonderful hotel, that is professionally run to the highest standards all in a delightful city. Thank you to Erikki, Tim, Jason and Nicole who all made our stay special. Given the consistent excellence on offer, it was also fantastic value.
I was in town on some tough business, but the luxury of the NH Grand Hansa really helped take the sting out of it. What more could you want from a hotel? I would do it all again in...
Read moreFirst time staying at this hotel having stayed at similar level places in Helsinki previously. ||Firstly location is great in terms of being very central. It was a few minutes walk from the central train station and no issue at all with a suitcase in tow.||Check-in - staff were really friendly and accommodating for my room requests (eg preferring a quiet room away from elevators etc). Showed me a few different options on request and I ended up in 717 on the top floor. ||Room - I booked a Grand Studio of which they have a number of options all with different layouts. Size wise quite similar. I chose 717 as it was the quietest and on a top floor. Room was great although there was no luggage rack for the suitcase and storage for clothes was somewhat limited - can imagine for two people you’d struggle here. |Bed was very comfy with a selection of pillows for every sleeping position. |I did feel there was a privacy issue though - the room is overlooked by both opposite windows and the outside balcony of the rooftop bar, not many people go there but I did find on Friday / Saturday evening there were a few consistently up. The windows didn’t have privacy blinds/curtains so your only option was to lower the blackout blinds which wasn’t the best in the evening when you wanted natural light in the room. ||Bathroom - Bath and shower were great.||Breakfast - Great tasty selection on the buffet, as well as cooked options to choose from via the menu. Can’t imagine there wouldn’t be something there for everyone.||Location - walking distance to all of main central Helsinki. Electric scooters are a big thing there and there’s a ‘parking’ spot for them outside the hotel so you can grab one easily if you need to. If bars are your thing again lots around.|It is in a livelier area though as you expect being central. So Friday / Saturday night whilst you can’t hear anything in your room, there’ll be people milling around not far from the entrance. ||Outside / Terrace bar - The food here was a bit of a let down unfortunately. The selection was quite limited, portions on the smaller side but the prices on the high side. Good location though so this could be easily improved. ||Staff - Very friendly and always happy to help or fulfil requests (like trying to find me a last minute local barber!). Shout out to Fernando who was especially helpful and made the check in experience top notch. ||Overall - Will definitely stay here again. I liked it was more spacious than Laplands all round, although not as quiet / secluded. I definitely felt I got more for my money in all aspects. Vs some of the boutique hotels eg Maria or F6 it depends what you’re after but I’d...
Read moreWe stayed at NH Collection Helsinki Grand Hansa, and from the first step inside you feel a calm blend of heritage and modern comfort. The hotel lives inside two historic Helsinki landmarks, the Art Nouveau New Student House from 1910 with its beautiful details, and the former Seurahuone building whose hotel story in the city goes back to the nineteenth century and moved here in 1913. You sense that history in the grand spaces, the elegant stairs, and the tall windows, and it pairs perfectly with quiet, contemporary design in the rooms.
The location is unbeatable. The hotel sits on Mannerheimintie directly opposite the Central Railway Station, so arrivals are easy, and you can walk to everything. Ateneum, Kiasma, the Oodi library, Esplanadi, and the Market Square are all just a short stroll. It is the perfect base for exploring Helsinki, whether you come for culture or for business.
Service is warm and attentive, and the small touches make a difference. Dinner was excellent, and breakfast felt like a celebration with complimentary champagne in the morning. The rooms are serene, the beds are very comfortable, and the bathroom technology, including the remote controlled toilet, brings a smile every time.
We did have a small issue on arrival with our first room, but it was solved immediately, and the team even surprised us with a thoughtful little gift as compensation. That quick and kind response showed true five star care, and it set the tone for a memorable stay.
If you want history, design, comfort, and great food in the heart of Helsinki, this hotel delivers. We will happily return. The only improvement I would suggest is to also hire more Finnish staff, to bring a bit of local atmosphere. At the moment most of the team comes from Asia, which is of course absolutely fine, my wife is from the Philippines herself, but it would be nice in Finland to also see and...
