We had an absolutely fabulous dining experience at this wonderful restaurant in Épernay. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warmth and professionalism. The service was impeccable – attentive yet unobtrusive, ensuring we felt taken care of throughout the meal.
The food was nothing short of exceptional. For starters, we enjoyed eggs with smoked salmon and the green peas with burrata. Both dishes were a delightful combination of flavors that set the tone for the meal. The mains were equally outstanding, with perfectly seared scallops and a tender chicken in orange wine sauce, complemented beautifully by earthy morel mushrooms. The cheese plate offered a delightful variety, and the meal ended on a high note with a decadent chocolate self-saucing pudding paired with refreshing passion fruit.
Each dish was thoughtfully crafted, showcasing the chef’s expertise and creativity. You could tell that every ingredient was fresh, chosen with care, and each plate was very appealing in both taste and presentation.
Overall, it was a memorable experience that exceeded our expectations in every way. We would wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Épernay. A definite...
Read moreAfter a weekend escape to Paris, we made a brief detour to Épernay on our journey home.
From the outside, L’OBEN — a modest restaurant tucked opposite a parking lot — didn’t make the strongest first impression from the exterior. However, intrigued by its positive Google reviews, we decided to stop in for lunch.
We were warmly welcomed by the host and manager, and received thoughtful, attentive service from Kevin, whose professional yet personable manner did not go unnoticed.
The food turned out to be a delightful surprise. We began by sharing the escargots and delicately sliced scallops — both beautifully plated and full of flavour. For the main course, I chose a richly tender stewed beef, and we concluded our meal by sharing a selection of desserts.
Each dish was beautifully presented, and the flavours were well-balanced — satisfying without being overly filling.
Highlights: Warm and attentive service Good value for money Intimate, cosy atmosphere Parking just across the street English...
Read moreWorst dining experience of my life My husband and I ordered a meal each to start with a side of chips, a dessert to share, a half bottle of champagne and a large water Empty plates, bowl, bottles and glasses sat in front of us on the tiny table for 40 minutes after we had finished at which point we decided to ask for the bill and leave The bill included the dessert which had not arrived The man at the till argued that we had ordered it and had to any for it. We pointed out that it had not arrived therefore it was unreasonable to expect us to pay for it After much back and forth we left We want to pay for what was bought to us. We will not pay for what was not received On a separate note the space is tiny though neat The food was average The staff pretended they couldn’t speak English until they tried to rip us off. Then suddenly their English...
