Restaurant Le Théâtre — Restaurant in Épernay

Unfortunately, this seems to be a restautant in decline. The service is rushed to a level that is rendering it nonexistent. Every time someone came to our table I was left with the feeling that the chronometer was running. This is no surprise considering that they had one single person (!) servicing a full restaurant. Every second of his time was spent several times already and I was left with a feeling of guilt for using up a whole minute of his precious time - quite uncomfortable! The food started out OK - the foie gras and the terrine were nice. The fishes that came as main dishes were terribly overcooked; completely wasted. The cheese that came for a platter was refrigerator cold. Why do you screw up the cheese in France…?! This was a desaster on many levels and I would strongly recommend avoiding this restaurant until they overcome whatever organizational trouble...

I was at the restaurant on September 17, 2024 and had a very unpleasant experience. I ordered the 3-course menu, but I had an unpleasant surprise with the first course (appetizer). I ordered a cod tartar that was initially very good, but I found a live worm larva coming out of the tartar and stopped eating. At the time, I didn't remember to take a picture, because I was really surprised. The chef came to my table and said that this happens with fresh fish. I preferred not to argue so as to end the matter quickly and not increase the discomfort, but in my opinion, a larva of that size (2cm) only develops in food that is not kept in the ideal conditions for consumption (storage time and temperature). I definitely do not recommend...

Awesome restaurant - classic french food poshed up just a little bit for us tourists. The wine list seems curated and thought through but is not very extensive...we did, however, find an absolute gem in the H. Goutorbe Cuvée prestige

Had the three course menu - and everything was flawless and well presented....only downside was that the sole meuniere served to the table besides us looked absolutely gorgeous and we didn't get that :D

Service is impeccable and French - not at all arrogant or posh, just well mannered and meticulous

Total spend €179 for party of two incl. full bottle of local sparkling wine

Would definitely go again if...
