Matin Gourmand — Restaurant in Épernay

This is a wonderful little brunch spot - the food is delish, the service is amazing and the atmosphere of the restaurant is super chic! Full review below if you’re want the details ;)

For the food, my husband had the bacon and egg burger and I had the eggs Benny. The burger was huge, which my husband loved. He got a cappuccino with his meal which he said was great - velvety milk and the espresso wasn’t burnt at all! For my meal, the eggs were perfectly cook, yolks were runny without any of the whites being undercooked. Two pieces of toast with two eggs and an incredible hollandaise sauce, you just knew it was home made! Yum-ey! I had a mimosa with my meal (because why not when in champagne!) which was great, the freshly pressed orange juice made it all the more delicious.

The service at the cafe was amazing! Agnés is just so lovely, she has a bubbly personality, and an easy laugh. She made us feel welcome immediately. She was so kind to me as I speak a little French and was excited to practice my skills, but she also spoke great english so could fill in the gaps where I didn’t know the French words. She was also the sweetest and came back after our meal and spent time with chatting away in French with me.

For the atmosphere, this restaurant has been well decorated. The dark wood and Edison-esque lighting creates a cosy chic vibe. It fits in with the whole atmosphere of Epernay. I can easily see myself whiling away my time there, if only we hadn’t...

An amazing menu and when we went in we were welcomed by a lovely lady and the food looked lovely. We were showed go seats but it was another 20 mins before we were asked our order. There were only 2 servers and were clearly overwhelmed. Male server clearly not happy about being there, slammed our water on the table and was very rude. It then took an hour for a our food to come which was missing an addition of smoked salmon and hadn’t respected our request for something on the side. There was no recognition of the delay or apologies. When we went to pay, we highlighted that there was no salmon however the male server continued to still charge for the salmon in the total price on the card machine and when this was highlighted again we were accused of lying about the salmon. Fabulous little brunch place, tucked away down a side street in Epernay. Had read all the great google reviews so decided to give it a try. We are travelling round France (from the UK) with our (v large) Leonberger, so we were very impressed when they confirmed they were "dog friendly" for the seats in the window, which were actually great as we got to people watch as we enjoyed our brunch. We had walked in, so not sure if you can book. I had the eggs benedict, beautifully cooked, with crisp bacon and delicious avocado on the toast and hollandaise sauce on top.
