Sacré Bistro — Restaurant in Épernay

Very disappointing food and experience - wouldn’t recommend eating here.

We came here having been recommended by our hotel and seeing its Instagram, however we were very disappointed. We left approx 50% of our food as it was terrible (and we aren’t food wasters!). The tempura vegetables (which included a deep fried bunch of spring onions?!) were bland, the seafood linguine completely tasteless (no sauce or seasoning), the €35 beef was chewy, unseasoned, full of gristle and tasteless and we had to spit out lots of the beef as it was too gristley. All of this was in a 30+ degree Celsius environment - with no aircon on (despite having it).

And by the looks of things it wasn’t just us the table of 6 next to us all left 50%+ of their meals.

When we told them that we didn’t enjoy the meal, they offered us 20% off our two mains - which felt like it missed the mark. Ultimately we spent £40 each on a terrible meal. But enjoyed the £40 bottle of wine. Potentially come for wine, but...

Booked online the day before, no problem. Be aware that most French restaurants hold a credit card with your booking in case of 'no shows', I have no problem with this. On arrival at the restaurant we were show to a great table, lots of ventilation from the open doors, the weather had been very warm all day. Food menu is simple but covers all areas, fish, meat, veg etc. The wine and champagne menu is huge, so unless you really know your stuff stick to the ones offered by the glass on the bar menu. We did and our party of four really enjoyed every glass we had. Service is slick and well staged, food was excellent, we had amuse-bouchè, starters...

Charming. Small menu allows chef to focus on making everything just right. I ordered ribs w/ coleslaw (a real deviation for me but…it just sounded right) and it was incredible. My husband, the linguine w/ seafood and our adult daughter the burger, both gave excellent reviews. The only “miss” in the lineup was the burrata with tomatoes and peach sorbet - tomatoes were grainy and the pesto lacked flavor. Not awful by any means, though and it didn’t affect our experience in general. Som made 2 great champagne choices for us. A gem in...
