We were looking forward to our visit to Table Kobus seeing the great and huge amount of positive reviews. That feeling faded completely as soon as we were seated- and completed throughout and after our dinner. Such a pity. They have so much potential.
85-90% of the visitors were tourists, mainly English speaking. USA/ UK standards cannot be compared to EU standards. Unfortunately, this place doesn't come close to a decent/ upscale EU brasserie standards. Of which it is understandable having a fair amount of these represented + reviews. Can be misleading. When you're used to travel you would go elsewhere for enjoying a local but good brasserie experience .
What to expect? It's a regular brasserie, just fine, nothing special. Just a pleasant presentation.
Amuse-bouche was brought to each table by 1 staff member w/ 15-20 plates on it. Felt like in a kantine. Tables are divided by removable walls, probably dating from Covid times, though it takes a lot of the charm of the resto venue away. Waiting time for each dish is about 30-45 min. Be sure you have nothing planned afterwards.
Service: Service was very poor. 5-6 staff members present though no body taking the actual lead, tasks were not clear/ clearly divided, staff seemed lacking education/ training). It's a bit odd after 30 min finishing your starter and main dish to have to call one of the staff members if they would be so kind removing the plates. Food: Presentation looked great (as on the pictures). Lack of hygiene in many ways. Eg. bread rolls placed on the tables touched or bitten from were just thrown back into the bigger basket, ready to refill for other tables. Cutlery not properly washed. Besides that the food didn't have any flavor, like none. Nor the ingredients seemed fresh (taste, appearance). When politely at the end of our visit addressing our concerns in a friendly manner to the head of staff, they just didn't care. It's a pity because from constructive feedback you can learn most.
It's a restaurant with a lot of potential. I do hope despite this feedback, the chef and staff embrace this and work together to make improvements so a promising future for the resto is possible. Whatever feedback you receive, it's important to handle it well. It's easy to have a laissez-faire attitude. It can make or break a business.
Wishing you the best of luck. I do hope to visit again once things improve, but for now I'd...
Read moreThis restaurant clearly underestimated my serious raw tomato allergy, which resulted in a very heavy allergic shock that night. We expressed my allergy and explained I couldn't eat tomatoes and they seemed to understand, as with my first course, they removed the sun dried tomato garnish. However, the juice of tomatoes can cause my allergic reaction as well, if those sun dried tomatoes were on my tuna tartare before, it still causes an allergic shock. Because I thought they had understood my allergy situation, I wasn't expecting this.
My first allergic symptoms started in the restaurant, but I wasn't aware at that moment, that it was caused by my allergy. However, back at the hotel, it turned into an extreme allergic shock fast.
My allergy caused heavy breathing troubles, diarrhea, nauseous, stomach pains, fever, swollen body, vomiting and unconsciousness. Due this allergic shock, I didn't sleep all night and nearly had to go to the hospital. Symptoms of this allergy can last up to a week, which clearly has ruined my Champagne tasting weekend... So I will never ever visit this...
Read moreCannot fault the food - it was very good. And most of the staff were friendly and helpful. But we arrived at 18:56 for a 19:00 reservation. The shutters were only half open, but we ducked under and entered the restaurant- to be told that ‘it was not a good time’ (should we have waited outside where it was threatening rain?). We were served us the champagne we had ordered - some was spilled a little over the side of hubbie’s glass - ok, that happens - and then mine was sloshed so badly that there was a small pool on the table in front of me. Waiter apologised, and quickly left ….. I thought he was going to get something to mop it up with, but he just went about serving others. I used my serviette to mop up and sat with a damp napkin …. yes, I could have asked for another, but I shouldn’t have to. In all honesty, the rest of the staff and the food itself was worthy of 4.5 stars, but the service put a dampener on the evening in more than one way....
