Restaurant Le Mirabeau — Restaurant in Aix-en-Provence

Well, where to start? The reception was subpar. When we walked up to the person at the entrance,at 19:00 a young lady asked us if we wanted to dine with them. I told her that we had a reservation at 19:00. She said great and she walked away. We waited there for more than 5 minutes while there was a commotion going inside. Then a young man came out and asked us if we had a reservation and I said that I told so to the young girl five minutes ago. He apologized and sat us down to a table which was half set. By them it was 19:25… It took another 15 minutes for the young girl to ask us if we wanted something to drink. I ordered a bottle of wine. Nothing happened for 15 more minutes. Then I waved at the young man who sat us down and asked him if we could get our wine which we ordered fifteen minutes earlier. He apologized and he ran inside. He came back a few minutes later to tell us that they did not have what I asked for. We settled for another bottle which got served when the clock struck 20:00… Then he took our orders. The food came in 30 minutes. It was look warm. I had ordered pork which was overcooked. One of the peas on the side was so leafy that I could not chew. My wife’s fish was so so. We finished eating quickly in fifteen minutes. The empty plates sat on the table for another 15 minutes. By the way nobody came in between to ask us if everything was fine or to serve the wine. While we were eating, a waitress attempted to pass between the chair of my wife and the chair of the person behind her. When she could not pass through, she asked my wife to move her chair, instead of backing up and going around the table on the other side where there was plenty of room. I really dislike leaving bad reviews so I will temper by starting with the good. The manager here is great and the staff was welcoming and professional. Also a great wine list (but that’s probably everywhere in Aix).

Atmosphere and location are great.. this is I believe the only way this restaurant stays open.

Now for the bad- The food here is notably disappointing. The meat is scarcely seasoned, the steak quite low quality and very chewy. Caesar salad was decent but nothing special and for the price (in my opinion) not worth it.

Funny story: After sending my steak back for being inedible, the Chef sent back a nice FU dollop of BBQ sauce underneath the bottom burger bun so every time I pick up the burger my hands get covered in sauce 😂. We spent a good 10 minutes discussing if he meant to do it and the consensus was a resounding - YES he most definitely meant to do it

If the owner of this restaurant actually reads these reviews, you may want to consider replacing your chef and revamping the menu.. Just my 2 cents.

Je m interroge sur la véracité des avis elogieux sur ce restaurant.....en effet apres réservation nous arrivons...on nous refuse 2 tables car... réservées ! Et nous alors nous avons aussi réservé et il y a 2 jours! On nous propose une horrible table en plein passage...devant notre refus la serveuse finit par accepter notre 3 eme choix de table. Un peu apres un monsieur sans réservation sera installé...là où ce n etait soit disant pas possible. Les tables sont minuscules...je n ai jamais vu de tels timbres poste ! Le personnel ( en nombre tres suffisant) brasse de l air, tout le service est tres lent, et 3 personnes differents s occupent de vous au gré de la soirée. Conséquence : des erreurs et il faut redemander le vin 3 fois ! La carafe est vide ? Dommage...faites sans. Les verres d apéritifs ne sont pas débarrassés, si bien qu on ne sait pas où poser nos mains et notre pain( vu la taille de la table!)..nous finissons par mettre les verres d aperitif, bouteilles de jus vides et plats d amuse bouche sur la...table voisine ! Mon mari reçoit un vin au verre qui n est pas celui commandé : malheureusement pour le serveur mon mari est professionnel du vin donc s en rend compte...changement du verre. Les plats sont globalement bons oui, mais : -le service est si lent que vous n avez plus faim -mon filet commandé saignant arrive tres cuit...remplacé en 3 minutes heureusement -les frites, tres bonnes, sont par endroit beaucoup trop salées -la sauce au poivre n a aucun goût

Bref, les gambas, les pates au saumon et le tatin d oignons etaient superbes...le reste discutable et gâché par les erreurs. Au toilette,c est Beyrouth :, chez les dames la poubelle deborde parterre. Chez les messieurs idem,avec en prime de l urine sur le sol en quantité suffisante pour comprendre que personne n a rien contrôlé de la journée. Bref,repoussant !

Au final, il y a sans doute un chef dans cette cuisine, mais extrêmement mal secondé par du personnel clairement non coatché. A 110€ le repas, on peut trouver à passer une bien meilleure soirée sur Aix! Nous soutenons le "fait maison" mais sincèrement nous ne donnerons pas de 2eme chance a...
