The hotel which is s converted monastery has a lot of character but also a great deal to be desired. The positives attributes are it's reception area, the beauty of the old monastery that's visible, such as it's cathdreal ceilings with stone walls, the tapestries, its painting & gothic window are gorgeous! The personnel, whom are so very nice, add a great touch as they want to please you in anyway possible!!! Areas for improvement are: Rooms. They are very dated with mattresses that are too soft & low to be comfortable, bath tubs lacked shower curtains, which means water ends up everywhere! We had a room that we actually had to climb stairs to get to the tub and sink area and the comode was at the bottom of those same stairs. To get to our room we had to go up two smaller flights of stairs after using the elevator. Totally unbelievable! Additionally not all the wall sockets in our room worked! Breakfast, for what was offered, is too expensive and lacked basics such as more croissants, sweets pastries, a larger variety of items, such a sweetened yogurts, maybe some fresh cut cold vegetables etc. Breakfast was from 7 to 10 and we went down at 9 and there was hardly anything left! The coffee however, was excellent. Aix-en-Provence is such a beautiful town that should not be missed, if in the area! This hotel for one night is very very basic. I would not recommend it for anything longer as it has too many variables that need to be improved...
Read moreWe only stayed for one night, but I'd stay here again in a heartbeat. The staff was so very helpful. There was issues with international phone service, and I needed to print out tickets for our train the next day, because I wasn't getting phone service. The staff was so helpful, and printed the tickets no problem. Also when we checked in early, they clearly could see we were hot, and tired, and immediately offered us ice cold bottles of water, held our bags, and tried to get our room ready early so we could check in before we were leaving on an afternoon trip to the lavender fields. The room was lovely, one large window that looked out onto a street but there was no noise issues at all. And most lovely, was that on this very hot day, the AC was working like a charm. (We had actually stayed the previous night at a 4 star hotel in town as part of a group and had had a terrible experience, so we were thrilled to find such a charming, friendly hotel at such a better price!) Hotel staff arranged for an early taxi to train station for us, and we left before breakfast, so I can not comment on the quality of that, however, even though we were not paying for breakfast they offered us a cup of coffee as we waited...
Read moreThe location is fabulous, very walkable and rooms are quite nice, clean and modern. The bed is very comfortable. Parking overnight at Rotonde 25 euros is convenient but pricey. Bathtub is very nice. Rooms have large windows. When I checked in the gentleman was very professional, welcoming, and proficient. The next day however, I did not like the treatment from the blonde lady at reception. I did not appreciate when I returned to the hotel from being outside, the reception lady asked me which room I was in - I told her. She then asked what my name was. I asked her why she needed to know when I've informed her my room number. She said because people walk in and it's for your security, and she wasn't there at reception when I checked in. I thought this was odd because I don't want to be interrogated each time I return to the hotel when the staff changes. I want to feel welcome and comfortable for a stay I've paid for, not treated like some unwanted guest. That was my one gripe. Later, she was apologetic and she did...
