Thé rotonde fountain has history while located at the centre of the aix en Provence.
I’ve witnessed the change in past 12 years. Earlier it used to be the round about and traffic used to be clogged here. It was nearly impossible to capture a good photo or to have a mesmerising look at it.
However, now the scene is totally different and it’s one of the best place to spend time during evenings. Artistic and practical arrangement of sitting benches and restricted entry of vehicles made it possible to enjoy its beauty.

We got stuck around the Foutain de la Rotonde because maps told us we could. Thankfully, with help from multiple delivery drivers and my french and miming, we were able to get out of this district. It didn't help that it was busy at lunch time with tuk-tuks blocking our way at one exit, which made us think we couldn't go down the street, so got stuck again. Read moreCentral area of Aix that has a unique two way road system around the fountain... inner lane goes clockwise - outer two lanes go counter clockwise. We got lost so many times (and that was within the first hour of dribing through Aix - WITH a GPS AND two Smartphones using google maps... seriously it is better to walk if you have the option to park your vehicle.
Many nice places nearby to eat and visit and there are night markets later in the week. Highly recommend going to the Musee Garnet for a cheap but high quality Art experience without the pushy crowds...
