It is 12:22 and I just came back from restaurant POYA in Val d’isere! And boy I have so much to write about! I’m a traveler and a foodie, and I know what I’m talking about when it comes to food! This restaurant has to be THE WORST restaurant I’ve ever been to in my whole life! We were 10 and we ordered 4x cote de beauf each at €185 a pop Amongst many other platters. The “waitress” Advised that the choices were not fatty and lean and super soft”! All 4 cuts were inedible, we couldn’t chew down on ANY bite of meat from any part of the cut and we spat every bite after trying to chew on it. To make things worse we did try many different kinds of meats like wagyu and Coby and 2 other that I forgot the names of and NONE OF THEM WAS CHEWABLE!!! So we call the waitress (who was very rude from the get go) and we explained to her the situations and she became defensive and even more rude and explained to us that this is what we should expect even though she advised 30 minutes before that our choices were lean and what each wanted. I asked her to call the manager who was listening to us and started screaming at us as if we did something wrong by expressing our dissatisfaction! He said that the meats were almost done from the boards as if we ate them all And we explained to him that our plates were full of spat out bites of meats that we couldn’t swallow (all 10 of us) and that the waitresses failed to show him cause she has emptied them. Then he said let me see what he could do. He left us hanging for 40 MINutes and came Back as if we didn’t have the conversation! He didn’t validate our anger by a response but he said : how would you like to pay? We then all decided that we needed to let the world know is about this restaurant and its quality and treatment of customers. It can’t go un acknowledged! RESTAURANT POYA VAL D’Isère! Please beware. We payed €150 each for food we...
Read moreWe went to Poya in a group of 6 with SUPER high expectations. We were extremely dissappointed. Here is the gist Lobstar raviolli - very good, proper bisque and that’s why they get the 1 star Perfect egg - wow that was a disaster, a mashup that one could not identify any flavour or texture Scallop carpaccio - we tried it and did not touch it - something EXTREMELY bitter, like the scallops were bad themselves Beef filet - ordered medium, came burnt - how difficult is to make a beef filet medium and not burn it? Cote de boeuf - ordered medium, came blue - was not left to rest and all juices were flowing like a volcano when the waiter was cutting it - waiter saw it was blue and not medium, and threw a plate on the table and said if you want any pieces done more let me know - the supposedly black angus prime US meat was like eating our car’s tyres - extremely dissappointed
We ordered 2 bottles of wine (red, white) and cocktails. While basic wines (a low level 2022 Chablis) is north of 100 euros, that’s fine it’s expected in the region. But what’s not expected is to have to continuously pour our wine ourselves.
One waiter was pretty good, and he ordered me a stunning spicy margarita so kudos to him and the barman.
Oh and the manager, when asked about wifi as there is very low signal reception, answered “We dont offer wifi, wifi is very complicated here”, and left.
What a disaster! I am doubting myself when writing this review as to whether I am weird given this place has a 4.6 score but probably people’s expectations have dropped quite a bit. I hope that people start educating themselves in order to be able to really distinguish what is actually good vs what...
Read moreWhat are you? Cocktail bar, high end restaurant,... Club? None of these. Just an overpriced disappointment. The cocktail bar is ok. Not moody, more rustic of sorts. Cocktails were fine. Relatively loud house/disco music. The restaurant is very expensive. It's trying to be high end, fine dining. The problem is the service isn't close to that. And the music from the cocktail bar continues in the restaurant. Wasn't sure if I was to eat my dinner or dance on the table. I don't want to listen to loud disco music when eating a 50 euro main. (I like house/disco music by the way). The cocktail bar and restaurant could coexist if they separated them more clearly. The food was between ok to good depending on what you chose. The mandarin brulé desert however was pathetic, not even close to a brulé, just acidic mandarin slices and at 16 euro a piece, you've got to be joking. If you're a pretentious Instagramer who doesn't know what culture and good food is then you'll get embarrassingly overexcited by this place. If you're not one of these...
