We were spending one night in Annecy having driven from the UK on our holiday to the South. We weren’t after much, just a nibble after the long drive. We saw this restaurant in a square serving Pizza and assumed we couldn’t go wrong. It is clear the restaurant weren’t taking Covid seriously (little wonder France is struggling!) but figured we would do what we could to prevent us getting it so made peace with the decision to stay. Sadly we should have acted on our hunch and left. My son ordered a Calzone and we asked that they remove the egg. The waitress nodded to say she understood and left with our order. The food arrived and to be honest looked and tasted ok. Having eaten round the centre of the Calzone it became clear there was an egg in it. He decided he didn’t want it which we understood. When we pointed this out to the waitress she reacted as though she knew an error had been made. She did offer us something else but my son wasn’t hungry (really can’t eat eggs!) so we thanked her but declined. When the bill arrived i noticed i was still being charged for the Calzone. When i questionned it, suddenly the staff lost their grasp of English! (Shouldn’t complain about this though - my french is awful). It was explained that because i turned down the offer of a replacement, i had to pay for it. This was an odd explanation and given the staff v customer (me) ratio, i felt i had no choice but to pay. Having reflected on this i should have ordered something there and then and taken them up on their offer of store credit! All in all, plenty of other choice in Annecy. I am sure others won’t give you the feeling of...
Read moreAs not many places are open outside of lunch hours in Annecy, we decided to go for quick pizza at Chez Monique with my wife and her parents. The restaurant was less than half full, mostly people sitting near the square but the rest empty. We were given a table for 4, the in-laws ordered a pizza to share and my wife and I planned to have some wine to keep them company (pretty normal behavior for a "restaurant" we thought). However, before we could move from the food order to the drinks, the waitier asked what my wife and I would be eating. We told them we're not eating right now. At this time we were informed that Chez Monique was "a restaurant" (not condescending at all) and that "in France" all sitting must order food. I find this strange as we’ve visited Annecy many times and most restaurants are happy to have to sit and drink away for the day! At this point we decided it was probably better to have the pizza to take away, instead of standing in the square looking at the elderly in-laws eat in at Chez Monique. Pizza wasn't bad but the service left a...
Read moreMy wife and I had our second dinner meal this evening at the restaurant. Our first dinner was a superb goat salad with mixed greens and it was embellished by walnuts and honey. Tiramisu for desert both nights, it is the best I have ever eaten. Stephan and all of the staff were very attentive and graciously helped us is in our selections. The menu is very inclusive of both French and Italian dishes. Of course the wine selection...
