I am reading a few of the recent reviews and can't believe they are talking about the same restaurant we went to. The comment by one person that the restaurant's menu was in French and to "get ready to translate", seems so odd to me. We are in France so if they chose to have their menu in France, it's their country. Also as you travel around France you quickly get used to this, especially if you want to eat at decent non touristy restaurants. I too would love the menu's to have been in English for my convenience but when you are served up exceptional food does it really matter?
Anyway, we were fortunate enough to eat at some amazing restaurants on our recent trip to Europe. We found great food all over France and Italy. Of all the meals and dinner experiences we had, our time at L'Agape was by far the best.
A few days after eating there we ate at a 1 Michelin star restaurant in San Sebastian which was great, but I would easily choose L'Agape over this one.
The food was exceptional. My wife and I dont speak French but the owner and Maitre D, was so helpful in explaining each dish to us in English. She gave great recommendations on the dishes as well as the wines and she was spot on.
Not only was the food excellent, the fresh and modern presentation was great. They also had little touches of complimentary things in between a few of the dishes which was a nice touch.
All in all a wonderful experience. If you find yourself in Avignon and you are looking for an excellent restaurant with lots of charm, great atmosphere, service and awesome food, you need to...

Servers were extremely nice but we had to flag them down a few times throughout dinner (which Iâve found to be common in France, they let you enjoy your meal). Food was unique and definitely fine dining. The more fine dining I eat, the more I realize the beauty is that the flavors and combinations are experimental, and they donât always work. The dinner was good but I wasnât thinking about the food hours or days later, which is my typical indication that the food was incredible. The one dish that stuck with me was this delicious white fish delicately bathed in a broth with a chorizo tomato paste and cooked zucchini. Super flavorful and wished the other dishes tasted as good. With so many options in the city, I probably wouldnât go back, but with an always changing seasonal menu, maybe other diners will enjoy it...
Read moreWONDERFUL quintessential French experience. My husband and I enjoyed the 5 course menu. We also had an aperitif and bottle of white wine. We thought the prices were quite reasonable for the quality of food and lovely atmosphere. The restaurant is cozy and romantic in the front. It is larger and brighter in the back. Service felt a bit rushed at first but leveled out through the courses. Husband said foie gras was the best he's had in France! I thought the fish (John Dory) was the best bite of the night. Both desserts were excellent-- sweet but not too sweet. Although the restaurant has an upscale feeling, you can wear nice jeans and sneakers (at least during the week when we were there). Staff was friendly too, despite my husband and I not speaking much French....
