We went here for an evening meal while on holiday and found it had very average food and appalling service. It was the worst restsurant we visited during our 2 week holiday . All the others were very good or at least friendly. This restaurant has some tables outside with superb view of the cathedral. Those tables were occupied when we arrived so we were seated inside. However I noticed that a table became free outside and asked to move ( these tables are not bookable so they were not expecting other people). The waitress had to ask the chef who said no. Even though we had not had our food so it would have been easy. We ordered a main course. The waitress asked if we wanted a pudding. We said we didn't know yet and she said we had to order everything at the beginning otherwise we would not be allowed to order a pudding later! There was plenty of time after we finished so it wasn't that the kitchen was closing they just have a lot of rules that are not good for customers and create a bad atmosphere. As for the food, we were given an amuse bouche of a shot glass of gazpacho. Now I love gazpacho but this was a watery flavourless thing like water after somethings been cooked in it. I have to say that the steak was very good. However again another rule said that you are not allowed to have potato of any kind with the steak, not chips. Or mash, or any type. You had to have either rice ( never had steak and rice before) or vegetables. We opted for vegetable. The vegetable was a watery kind of puree, again with no flavour. The waitress was unfriendly and very brusque. We were pleased to leave this restaurant but it has stayed in our memory as "that terrible restaurant with the oppressive and ridiculous rules". Definitely one...
Read moreWhile wandering the streets of Bayeux, we found this quaint restaurant located across the street from the Cathedrale Notre Dame de Bayeux. As it was lunchtime, we noticed that the place was full but the server, a very charming and professional young woman, was able to seat us at a table for two. We were pretty certain that this was a locals favorite and I'm pretty certain that we were the only English-speaking customers there at the time. Between our limited French and Google Translate, we were fairly successful at navigating menus but fortunately, our server spoke English very well and she answered all of our questions. We chose to have the Formule du Jour which included a main plate and a dessert. I had the faux filet (sirloin steak) and my wife had the filet de merlan (Whiting). The lunch started with an amuse bouche which the chef called Squash Cappuccino. This was an amazing little shooter which was like very smooth and delicious squash soup with a foamy top. The main plates were absolutely delicious. This chef is a master at sauces. We each had a different sauce and they were both great. The fish was fresh and tender. As was the sirloin, which was done to a perfect med rare. For dessert, we had a crunchy, coconut cookie (macaroon-like) topped with grilled and macerated pineapple floating in a delicious chocolate sauce. The meal also came with a glass of wine or a coffee. As a surprise finish, the chef sent out two bite-sized meringues to complete the experience. Both the chef and the server made us feel like the meal was made just for us...very personal. We were only in Bayeux for the day but if we had been staying there, I know we would have gone here everyday. ...
Read moreI cannot sing enough praises about Le P’tit Resto! Vraiment fantastique! My wife and I were lucky enough to be seated at a table for two; the restaurant is consistently full and for good reason - eating here was an amazing culinary experience. The service was prompt, extremely professional, and very friendly. The entree, main, and dessert were exceptional both in presentation and taste. This was by-far one of the most enjoyable and memorable meals I have had. You could tell that the chef takes pride in his food. I ordered the foie gras, lamb shank (it was so tender and amazing!), and white chocolate tartlet. My wife ordered the goat cheese, sea bream, and the mi-cuit chocolat. I wish we could bring this...
