A killer pub/resto - way over delivered for the experience you might expect from this type of resto. Jeff was a great server, even though the place was getting busy fast for the rugby game he was attentive, made good recommendations and checked a few menu questions we had (the beef tataki comes with a small garnish of black dots on the plate - they are squid ink and roasted sesame paste! The tataki is excellent btw) Fun and dynamic wine list, prices are all very good for a city center resto and every dish was tasty, interesting, and plated with artistry/thoughtfulness. Music was a fun vibe, every table was having fun and you can tell it gets banging later at night was the dj decks are front and center. Worth stopping in and trying, especially if you're into trying different wines! The chocolate lava cake was divine and I scrapped my plate to finish it off. Oysters were fresh, well shucked, and the mignonette had just the right zip and crunch from the shallots. My only suggestion would be to separate the oyster from the shell but we haven't seen that in France anywhere so far - and the quality was second to none so maybe it's a preference for us Canadians (and God knows we've had some butchered oysters when they aren't separated right in Calgary). The 3 course set menu costs 28 euros (plus some euros more for certain choices, which is already a bit strange). the beetroot and cheese were good, the mushroom soup unfortunately only lukewarm at best. the main courses (roasted cauliflower and pasta with chicken and truffle sauce) were quite bland and lacked a salt/unami base. the staff was very kind and friendly, but not very efficient or proactive. during our time in Bordeaux we have eaten at many other venues who offered higher quality cuisine at the same price. the bar downstairs looked...
Read moreAbsolutely brilliant, such a hidden gem, couldn't fault anything about this place! A 3 course meal for 27€ is fantastic value for money, given how delicious each of the option were -- we had the pumpkin, gravlax, the pork, the chicken and the tart and the mousse, and each dish was stunning.
The service was impeccable too, both downstairs at the bar and upstairs in the restaurant, every member of staff was so helpful, so considerate and so accommodating, incredibly friendly and personable! Service was incredibly efficient, but not rushed; we went on a Monday night, and it was quiet but lively, it was such a pleasure to just sit and chat there.
I cannot recommend this place enough, if you're in Bordeaux it's...
